Lesta Sloas Young (1918-2008)
Lesta Sloas Young, 89, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, from her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 7, 1918, in Boyd County, Ky., the daughter of the late Marion Daniel and Lida Belle Ramey Sloas.
She was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Hurley A. Young; three sons, Curtis Gordon Young, Larry “Butch” Young and Roy Roger Young; a granddaughter, Autum Young; a great-granddaughter, Teria Stephens; and a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Young.
Survivors include four daughters, Flora (Ronnie) Willett of Ashland, Patricia (Herschel) Crum of Chesapeake, Ohio, Linda Sue (Chris) Erwin and Karen (Woodrow Lee) Mullins of Ashland; a son, Benny (Linda Rose) Young of Ashland; two daughters-in-law, Linda Lou Young and Brenda Young of Ashland; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Acy Gibson and the Rev. David Lynch. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Alberta M. Patrick (1928-2008)
Alberta M. Patrick, 79, of Ironton, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Dec. 1, 1928, in Boyd County, Ky., the daughter of the late Harry Runyon and Junie Lewis Rucker. She was a member of Lawrence Street Baptist Church in Ironton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John M. Patrick.
Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Fernandez of Floyd, Va., Deborah (William) Russell of Nancy, Ky., Connie Castle of Ashland, Ky., and Dianna Marshall of South Point, Ohio; five sons, Larry Lykins and Andy (Pam) McDowell of Ashland, Bobby McDowell and William Patrick of Columbus, Ohio, and Timothy McDowell of Ironton; two sisters, Nancy Delawder of Perry Township, Ohio, and Alice Strump of Flatwoods, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, May 8, 2008, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Charles Rice and Terry Collins. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Bessie Sparks Robinson (1916-2008)
Bessie Sparks Robinson, 92, of Ashland, widow of George W. Robinson, passed away Wednesday morning following an extended illness.
Bessie was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Elliott County, a daughter of the late Hugh and Alafair Fannin Sparks.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet (Duayne) Dillon of Ashland, Ky.; a grandson, Gary (Gretchen) Dillon; and three great-grandchildren, Rachael, Jennifer and Matthew, all of Catlettsburg.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Tim Daniels. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bessie J. Estle (1975-2008)
Bessie J. Estle, 32, of Peebles, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 4, 2008, in Adams County Regional Medical Center in Seaman, Ohio.
Mrs. Estle was born Oct. 14, 1975, in Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of Wanda Royster Adkins of Latham, Ohio, and the late Lenny Adkins.
She was also preceded in death by her grandfather, Jim Royster. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Tom Estle, whom she married on Oct. 21, 1991; two sons, Richard Thomas Estle and Dodge Clayton Estle; two daughters, Breyanna Nicole Estle and Jerica Dawn Estle, all of Peebles; two brothers, Lenny (April) Adkins and James (Rachael) Adkins, both of Peebles; a sister, Sandra (Mark) Adkins Cyrus of Waverly, Ohio; her grandfather, Everett Adkins of Lynn, Ky.; and her grandmother, Bessie Royster of Peebles.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Route 7 Mission Church in Warnock, Ky., by Brother Bryan Williams and Brother Matt Hall. Burial will be in Craft Cemetery on Brushy Road in Lynn.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Reed Funeral Home in Greenup is in charge of arrangements.

Denvil Gene Goodman
Denvil Gene Goodman of Sandy Hook, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 6, 2008.
He was the son of the late Orville and Rosy Goodman.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Darvin; a sister, Mary Adkins; and two former wives, Barbara Ross and Nancy Adams.
Denvil was a truck driver for Howards Trucking in Fairborn, Ohio, until his retirement.
Surviving are five children, Debby, Cynthia and Darrell, all of Ohio, Robert Dale of Kansas and Patricia Kay of Ashland, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six sisters and brothers, Naomi Hull of Xenia, Ohio, Stella and Virgil Flannery of Olive Hill, Ky., Joyce Keen of Fairborn, Ohio, John and Linda Goodman of Sandy Hook, Joann and Delmas Griffith of Olive Hill and Barry Goodman of Olive Hill.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at Upper Bruin Enterprise Baptist Church. Burial will be in Skaggs Cemetery.

Edna Rigsby (1934-2008)
Edna Loraine Martin Womack Rigsby, 73, of Grayson, died Tuesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
She was born June 25, 1934, in Greeenup County.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pactolus Methodist Church. Burial will be in Anglin Cemetery.
Friends may call after noon Friday at the Rigsby residence and after noon Saturday at the church.

James Honeycutt (1927-2008)
James Monroe Honeycutt, 81, of Sitka, died Wednesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Johnson County. His wife, Evline Honeycutt, died in 1996.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Highland Memorial Funeral Chapel in Staffordsville. Burial will follow.

Ernest Keen (1926-2008)
Ernest E. Keen, 81, of Wayland, husband of Edith Creech Keen, died Monday in St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
He was born Aug. 31, 1926.

Dessie Collins (1925-2008)
Dessie Collins, 82, of Craynor, widow of Jake Collins, died Wednesday in Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born July 12, 1925, in North Carolina.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Home Regular Baptist Church in Grethel. Burial will be in Hall Cemetery in Craynor.

Beulah Murphy (1916-2008)
Beulah Fouch Murphy, 91, of Morehead, died Tuesday in Life Care Center in Morehead.
She was born June 23, 1916.
Her husband, Sherman Murphy, preceded her in death.
