Hyton Eugene “Bub” Sexton - 1953-2009

Hyton Eugene “Bub” Sexton, 55, of Grayson, died earlier this week.

He was born July 17, 1953, in Grayson, Ky., a son of the late Hyton C. Sexton and Opal Marie Gose Sexton Glass.

Also preceding him in death were his stepfather, Gail Glass; a sister, Barbara “Peggy” Burton; and three brothers, Danny Dale Sexton, Mike Sexton and Phillip Glass.

He is survived by a son, Bruce Eugene Sexton of Grayson; daughters Sally Marie Sexton Adams Kemplin of Grayson and Janie Lou Sexton of Grayson; three sisters, Bonnie Thomas of Grayson and Sue Waggoner and Liz Glass, both of Olive Hill, Ky.; a brother, Clyde Glass of Olive Hill; and four grandchildren, Macy Ryan Fleming “Sexton,” Kalynn Danielle Adams, Tommy Lee Kemplin Jr. and Madison Dale Kemplin.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Clell Lucas, minister. Burial will be in Easterling Cemetery.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to help with funeral expenses.



Ruth Stapleton - 1926-2009

The Lord lifts his servant, Ruth Eloise Hall Stapleton, not to judge, but to dwell in his faithfulness and righteousness, for her faith has served him well. Mrs. Stapleton passed from her home on County Road 18 in South Point on Tuesday evening, May 5, 2009.

Mrs. Stapleton was 83 years of age, born March 2, 1926, in Catlettsburg, Ky., a daughter of the late Jarvie and Carrie Robinson Hall. Her husband of 55 years, Otto W. Stapleton, preceded her in 2003.

Also preceding her in death was a brother, Bob Hall, and a sister, Betty Hanners.

Ruth was employed with White Swan Laundry in Catlettsburg and later the Ramada Inn in South Point, retiring to be a housewife and homemaker. She was a kind, gentle mother and grandmother, serving many in Jesus’ name with a heartfelt fervor, including service to Christ through her faith and prayer, with loyal membership at South Point Church of Christ.

Ruth departed the presence of a loving family that includes three sons, Michael (Pat) Stapleton of Ravenswood, W.Va., and Gary Stapleton and Ron (Patti) Stapleton, all of South Point, Ohio; and an only daughter, Marji (Ron) Thomas of South Point.

She was “Mamaw” to seven beautiful grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Fisher, Steve (Christina) Richardson, Tyler Stapleton, Ronnie Stapleton Jr., Ryan Stapleton, David Thompson and Saul Thompson; and three precious great-grandchildren, Braedon, Ayden and Cayden.

Remembering Ms. Ruth and her children are their “straight stretch kin!” Also are a caring and devoted neighbor, Peg Wilson, close friends Mary Whaley and Faye Lovejoy, to be joined by a multitude of fond acquaintances, too many to name, but all to sorrow deeply for their loss, yet find comfort in heaven’s gain!

Funeral services in remembrance of Mrs. Stapleton will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Mike Trivette will offer a message of inspiration, with a heartfelt personal eulogy from Brother Tom Ledford. Final rest will follow a solemn committal at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland. Grandsons will serve as casket bearers.

Those wishing to call on the Stapleton family may do so between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.



Ruby Cook

Ruby Cook, 79, of Dunedin, Fla., died Thursday in Kingsbrook Life Care Center in Ashland.

Joe Preston

Joe M. Preston, 77, of Ashland, died May 1 in Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Preston.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Ashland Heights Wesleyan Church in Ashland.

Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home in Ceredo, W.Va., is in charge of arrangements.



Bernice “Ruth” Qualls

Bernice “Ruth” Qualls of Ashland died Thursday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Juanita Hale - 1952-2009

Juanita Ruggles Hale, 56, of London, Ohio, formerly of Greenup County, died Wednesday in Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

She was born Nov. 27, 1952, in Ironton, Ohio.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.



William “Pete” Carter

William McKinley “Pete” Carter, 85, of Olive Hill, died Thursday in Rockcastle Health and Rehabilitation Center in Brodhead.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Rose Tabor Carter.

Elmer Burchwell - 1921-2009

Elmer E. Burchwell, 87, of Blaine, died Wednesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born May 17, 1921, in Lawrence County.

His wife, Joy E. Kelley Burchwell, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Skaggstown Cemetery at Flat gap.

James Tolliver - 1953-2009

James Tolliver, 55, of Staffordsville, died Wednesday at his residence.

He was born Dec. 20, 1953, in Carter County.

Willis Hargis Johnson, 98, of Morehead, died Thursday in Elliott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Hook.

He was born June 1, 1910.

His wife, Mabel Howard Johnson, preceded him in death.

Dolores Ann Fraley, of Flatgap, died Wednesday in Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

She was born March 6, 1936, in Ashland.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Larry Schwab - 1961-2009

Larry R. Schwab, 48, of Ironton, died Wednesday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born Feb. 13, 1961, in Lawrence County.
