Sue Blankenship McCloskey Kazee (1917-2009)
Sue Blankenship McCloskey Kazee, 92, of Ashland, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at her residence.
She was born March 16, 1917, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Wallace and Ottie Woods Blankenship. She was the wife of William E. “Windy” Kazee, who survives.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Bellefonte Country Club. She was an employee development officer with the Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Paul McCloskey, and a sister, Pauline Blankenship.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a stepson, William Wallace Kazee and his wife, Danielle, of California; a stepdaughter, Anna Margaret McClanahan and her husband, Kenneth, of Garland, Texas; three stepgrandhchildren, Karen Battin of Indiana, Derek Kazee of San Francisco, Calif., and Kathy Kirk of Austin, Texas; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Charles Stewart. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Janet Faye Allen (1944-2009)
Janet Faye Allen, 64, of Westwood, died Friday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born May 4, 1944, in Braden, Ohio, the daughter of the late John Monroe Montgomery and Irene Phillips Montgomery. She was the wife of Derald Allen, who survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of American Legion Post 76 Ladies Auxiliary, where she was treasurer. She attended Gallia County Schools in Ohio and graduated from Hannan Trace High School in Patriot, Ohio, in 1962.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Monroe Montgomery.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Michael Jason (Amy Crabtree) Allen of South Point; a daughter, Cindy Dawn (Mike) Stewart of Ironville; two grandchildren, Morgan Lee Stewart and Andria Dawn Stewart; two stepgrandchildren, Alex Holbrook and Alyssa Carpenter; two brothers, Robert “Buddy” (Nancy) Montgomery of Salem, Ind., and Howard Wayne (Joyce) Montgomery of Columbus; and three sisters, Alice Francis Montgomery of Dayton, Margaret Louise (Jerry) Myers of Gallipolis and Barbara Jean Branham of Louisville.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor Mike Cox. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Tyler Forsythe Ragsdale (2005-2009)
Tyler Forsythe Ragsdale, 3, of Lexington, died Thursday, April 30, 2009.
He was born Oct. 4, 2005, in Lexington, the son of Beth Hamilton and James Ragsdale of Lexington.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Alice SaraJane Ragsdale of Lexington; his maternal grandparents, John and Kimberly Hamilton of Lexington; and his paternal grandmother, Sara Houser of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Max Houser.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Milward Funeral Directors-Broadway, 159 N. Broadway, Lexington, KY 40507, by Tyler Johnson.

Kathryn Diamond (1929-2009)
Kathryn Caudill Diamond of Flatwoods now rests peacefully with our Savior after her passing on Friday, May 1, 2009, from Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
Mrs. Diamond was 79 years of age, born Oct. 1, 1929, in Milton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Tom and Gracie Butterworth Beatty.
Also preceding her in death were her first husband, James E. Caudill, and her second husband, Amon Diamond. She retired from Downtown Cleaners and attended Community Tabernacle Church in Flatwoods. Kathryn loved to read the Bible and work crossword puzzles. She had a sweet spirit, was always happy and loved her grandchildren and family.
Surviving is a loving family, including two adoring daughters, Ramona Abrams and her husband, Paul, of Flatwoods and Debra Longwith and her husband Jim, of Elizabethtown; three sisters, Mildred Adkins of South Gate, Calif., Sylvia Niece of Proctorville, Ohio, and Elsie Musso of South Gate; five grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at South Solon Cemetery in South Solon, Ohio.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg.
Vernon Leslie Blankenship (1926-2009)
Vernon Leslie Blankenship, 82, of Louisa, died Friday in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Ashland, the son of the late Lindsey and Carrie Sparks Blankenship. He was the husband of the late Clotine Hay Blankenship.
He was a service technician at NASA and Boeing Aircraft and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Deanna Lester of Louisa; two sisters, Gayle Stamper and Carolyn Vogel, both of Delaware, Ohio; a granddaughter, Georgieana Grayson; and two great-granddaughters, Alexandria Grayson and Anna-Wray Grayson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa by the Rev. Emmitt Barker. Burial will be in Elliott County Memorial Gardens in Sandy Hook.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Phyllis Miller
Phyllis A. Miller, 77, of Russell, died Saturday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Her husband, Thomas Miller, preceded her in death.
Private graveside services will be at a later date. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
There will be no visitation.

Katherine Cogswell Brown, 94, of Owingsville, died Friday in Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Owingsville.
She was born March 27, 1915, at Cogswell.

She was born in Johnson County.

She was born June 18, 1915, in Wyoming County, W.Va.
Her husband, Shafter “Tat” Jenkins, preceded her in death.

The Rev. Fred Samuel Blagg, 79, of Pedro, died Friday at his residence.
He was born March 29, 1930, in Pedro.
His wife, Carol Kidd Blagg, survives.
