Sheila Gumbert - 1946-2008
Sheila Faye Gumbert, 61, of Greenup died Wednesday at Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She was born Oct. 9, 1946, in Greenup, the daughter of the late Charles and Irma Myrick Johnson. She was the wife of Garry Lee Gumbert, who survives.
She was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one son, Garry Lee Gumbert Jr. of Greenup; two daughters, Patricia Ann Reeves and Michelle Lee Beach, both of Flatwoods; one granddaughter, Lauren Michelle Raglin of Flatwoods; three grandsons, Derrick L. Beach, Seth Reeves and Tyler Reeves, all of Flatwoods; two brothers, Charles Johnson Jr. of Lancaster, Ohio, and Tim Johnson of Wurtland; and two sisters, Elizabeth Winters of South Point, Ohio, and Cynthia Claxton of Garrison.
Funeral will be 8 p.m. Friday at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Norma Jean Stewart - 1929-2008
I Norma Jean Stewart was born on March 3rd, 1929 at Riverton, KY, Greenup County. My father, the former “Press” Moore, formally from Carter Co., and Essie M. Webb, from Carter Co.
Preceding my death was my husband, Ray Stewart of Greenup Co., whom I married August 21, 1946; and two sons, Christopher Ray Stewart and Rodney Dale Stewart; three brothers, Oliver Moore, Clarence Earl Moore and Jay E. Moore; and two sisters, Gaytred Moore Bates and Catherine Moore McClellan of GA.
Surviving are one son, Carl Stewart Collier; and granddaughter who’s been my care taker for very long periods of my illness, Carla Hannah. Remaining one grandson, Bryan Keith Stewart of Michigan and Melisha Sue Stewart of KY; one great-granddaughter, Tabitha Arney of Wheelersburg, OH; one good remaining friend, Connie Johnson of Worthington, KY, who was there for me when I lost my loved ones.
I was a former Sunday School teacher at Coal Branch Tabernacle and taught at Hensley Hollow of Flatwoods, and a period at Bryan Community Tabernacle at Caroline Road of Raceland, KY.
Mrs. Stewart passed away on April 30, 2008 at her residence in Wheelersburg, OH.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Fri., May 2, 2008 at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, KY, by the Rev. Glen Newsome. Burial will be in Bishop Green Cemetery in Greenup, KY.

Ray Stephens - 1916-2008
Ray Stephens, 92, of Little Fork, Elliott County, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008, at his home.
He was born Jan. 29, 1916, a son of the late Reuben and Della Blanton Stephens.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Iva Peters Stephens; three brothers, Earl Stephens, Chester Stephens and Louie Stephens; and three sisters, Dorothy Stephens, Barbara Stephens and Bretta Blevins.
He was a lifelong farmer and a retired state maintenance worker. He was a Kentucky colonel and an Enterprise Baptist.
Mr. Stephens is survived by three daughters, Elma Lewis, Margie Walker and Rita Carl; a son, Curtis Stephens; and a brother, Okie Stephens.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook. Entombment will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Douglas Jarvis - 1947-2008
Douglas Jarvis, 60, of Van Lear, died Tuesday at his home.
He was born May 22, 1947, in Floyd County, the son of the late Edgar Jarvis and Nellie Endicott Jarvis Dale. He was the husband of Marlene Sturgill Jarvis, who survives.
He was a disabled factory worker of Automotive Supply and a member of the Old Log Cabin Church of Van Lear.
He also was preceded in death by six brothers, Esau Jarvis, George Jarvis, Mick Jarvis, Monroe Jarvis, Greene Jarvis and Estill Dale.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Danny Cornelison of Ypsilanti, Mich., Sheldon Douglas Jarvis of Van Lear; two daughters, Drema K. Hunt of Ashland and Debbie Cleavinger of Pinckney, Mich.; five brothers and four sisters, Luther Jarvis of Pikeville, Jake Jarvis of Banner, Edgar Jarvis of Tram, Merlin Dale, Frances Vanover and Pat Hamilton, all of Stanville, Don Dale of Ivel, Alice Graves of Tennessee and Sandra Justice of Betsy Layne; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin by Richard Music and Newt Music.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Log Cabin Church of Van Lear or the Highlands Cancer Center.

Charlotte Holsinger - 1952-2008
Charlotte Davis Holsinger, 55, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, died Monday in Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.
She was born May 19, 1952, in Logan, W.Va.
Her husband, Garold E. Holsinger, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in McKendree Cemetery in Stout, Ohio.

Donald Mabry - 1929-2008
Donald Mabry, 78, of Elliott County, died Wednesday at his residence.
He was born June 6, 1929, in Elliott County.
His wife, Helen Sparks Mabry, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in the Mabry Cemetery on Mauk Ridge Road in Elliott County.

Cassie Gross - 1943-2008
Cassie Irene Gross, 64, of Florence, formerly of Morgan County, died Monday in the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati.
She was born Oct. 3, 1943, in Wolfe County.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Potter Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery at Belknap.

Carson Reffett - 1932-2008
Carson “Red” Reffett, 75, of David, died Tuesday in Prestonsburg Healthcare Center.
He was born June 26, 1932, in David.
His wife, Laudy B. Prater Reffett, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Reffett Cemetery at Pitts Fork in David.

Bertha Blanton
Bertha Blanton, 86, of Salyersville, died Tuesday.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Magoffin County Funeral Home in Salyersville.

Ford Salyer
Ford Salyer, 78, of Salyersville, died Tuesday.
A memorial service will be at a later date.

Jerldiean Tackett - 1943-2008
Jerldiean Goble Tackett, 64, of Hagerhill, died Wednesday at her residence.
She was born July 15, 1943, in Johnson County.
Her husband, Verdice “Bo-Bo” Tackett, preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.
