Willie Thacker - 1924-2008
Willie Thacker, 83, of Greenup, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born June 19, 1924, in Pike County, the son of the late William Ballard and Olva Belcher Thacker. He was the husband of Mae Phillips Thacker, who survives.
He was retired as a self-employed salesman and he was a member of Flatwoods Church of Christ. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Richard L. Thacker of Greenup; a daughter, Roberta T. Hayden and her husband, Raymond, of Lloyd; a grandson, Kevin Bowling and his wife, Jenny, of Mount Sterling; a granddaughter, Angie Eastham and her husband, Todd, of Greenup; a grandson, Daniel Thacker of Greenup; a granddaughter, Rebecca Thacker of Greenup; three great-granddaughters, Kierston Eastham and Kaitlin Eastham, both of Greenup, and Emily Bowling of Mount Sterling; a great-grandson, Kaden Mahan of Russell; two brothers, Elray Thacker of Greenup and Kermit Thacker of Florida; and two sisters, Christine Justice of Mount Sterling and Earnestine Williamson of Ashland.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup by Brother John Brown. Burial will be in Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today and an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Willa Dean Oney - 1926-2008
Willa Dean Oney, 81, of Raceland, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Grahn, a daughter of the late Russell and Vida Brown Stevens.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Raceland.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Oney.
Surviving are her loving husband, Clifford Oney; a daughter, Pam Dillow of Raceland; five sisters, Irene Fultz of Flatwoods, Helen Fultz of New Holland, Ohio, Hope Porter of Globe, Phoebe Frazier of Columbus and Brenda Yoke of Grayson; a brother, Bucky Stevens of Globe; two grandchildren, Christy Thomas and Jacob Hewlett; and five great-grandchildren, Cole Thomas, Chase Thomas, Gavin Reed, Alex Hewlett and Mattie Hewlett.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Raceland by the Rev. Tom Stevens. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland.
Joseph Stevens - 1937-2008
Joseph Work Stevens, 71, of Webbville, died April 27, 2008, at his residence following a long illness.
He was born Feb. 6, 1937, in Lawrence County, a son of the late Elisha and Emily Edwards Stevens. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Blaines Trace Enterprise Baptist Church.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Stevens Jr., and a granddaughter, Tiffiany Messina.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Carolyn Reaper Stevens; four daughters; Martha Massie, Regina Stevens and Bobbie Jo Stevens, all of Webbville, and LaDonna Messina of Ashland; a son, John Reaper of Webbville; a stepson, Mike Morrison of Ironton; three brothers, John Stevens of Webbville, Elisha Stevens Jr. of Ashland and Robert Stevens of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Beulah Faye Rucker of Boaz, Ala., and Patricia Maddox of Flatwoods; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blaines Trace Enterprise Baptist Church by June Lewis and Russell Griffith. Burial will be in Stevens Family Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday and before services Wednesday at the church.

Harold Carroll - 1934-2008
Harold Douglas Carroll, 73, of Grayson, passed from this life to be with his heavenly father on Friday, April 25, 2008, in Cornerstone Hospital following a brief illness.
He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 3, 1934, in Carter County, and was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Hattie Smith Carroll.
Mr. Carroll was a member of Barretts Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was retired from Kentucky Electric Steel, where he worked for 34 years. He was a crane operator and a farmer his entire life. He was a member of United Steel Workers Local 7054.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Reuben Carroll, Walter Carroll Jr. and Raymond Carroll; a sister, Marie Nolting; a father-in-law, Harry Pope; and a brother-in-law, Tom Pope.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy Jane Pope Carroll of Grayson. They had a friendship and love few people have been blessed to share. They cherished their three children — a son, William Douglas Carroll and wife Shirley of Grayson, a son, Gregory (Greg) Wayne Carroll and wife Patti of Webbville; and a daughter, Susan Mignon Colley and husband Randy of Grayson.
His loving presence and laughter will be missed by two sisters, Laura Mae Carroll of Connersville, Ind., and Betty Louise Prichard and husband Doug of Franklin, Ohio; mother-in-law Faye Pope Burnett and husband Clayton of Grayson; four sisters-in-law, Maxine Carroll of Anderson, Ind., Maxine Carroll of Grayson, Opal Wilson, of Dover, Tenn., and Sue Wellman and husband Harold of Grayson; a brother-in-law, Tony Pope and wife Bee of Grayson; four granddaughters, Dawn Keffer, Whitney Carroll, Brandy Colley and Breianna Colley; three stepgrandchildren, Willard Knipp III, Lisa Salmons and Crystal Shepherd; and seven great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by many other beloved family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Barretts Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Jim Stephens will deliver a message of faith and hope and Pastor Brian Bush will deliver a heartfelt eulogy. Special music will be by the Barretts Creek Baptist Church Choir. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens in Grayson.

Paul Sierer - 1927-2008
Paul W. Sierer, 81, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
The Ironton native was born April 9, 1927, the son of the late Louis John and Emma Norris Sierer. He was the husband of Dorothy Dickenson Sierer, whom he married on May 30, 1958.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Louis Sierer.
Mr. Sierer was a 1945 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School in Ironton, attended Xavier University and was a graduate of Marshall College. He formerly worked as a journalist for the Herald Dispatch in Huntington and the Dayton Daily News and was editor of the Ashland Daily Independent for 36 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was active in “I Care for Good Government” in Ironton.
Also surviving are five daughters and three sons-in-law, Susan and Jon Morin of Raleigh, N.C., and Ann Artis, Judith and Malcolm Wain, Carol and Ovid Wilson and Linda Pennington, all of Ironton; a sister, Helen Sierer of Ironton; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ironton by Father Thomas Nau. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Coal Grove.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton.
A Rosary service will be at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Pine Grove, Ohio.
His wife, Peggy Waddle Mullins, survives.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pine Grove Cemetery in Pine Grove.
