Opal R. McKee (1908-2009)
Opal R. McKee, 100, of Ashland died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. She was born Dec. 23, 1908, in Greenup County, the daughter of the late Alfred Grayson and Mintie Lewis Rice. She was the wife of the William Lorraine McKee who passed away in 1977. She was a homemaker who loved to spend time with her family, neighbors and friends. She was a devoted member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she loved to attend Sunday school and Bible study, as well as many other church activities. She was a Kentucky Colonel and a former member of the Eastern Star where she had served as Worthy Matron.
She also was preceded in death by one son, John Lewis McKee.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Teri McKee of Ashland; one daughter-in-law, Jean McKee of Chapel Hill, N.C.; three grandchildren, Jane McKee (Robert) Slater of Chapel Hill, John (Anne) McKee Jr. of Durham, N.C., and David (Michele) McKee of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Ike Nicholson. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1930 Winchester Avenue, Ashland, Ky. 41101.

Claude Lambert (1950-2009)
Claude B. Lambert of Catlettsburg departed the presence of his family to be present with our Lord and Savior Saturday morning April 25, 2009, from Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mr. Lambert was 58 years of age, born to the late Claude B. Jr. and Helen Sperry Lambert on Dec. 19, 1950, in Ashland. He was a lab technician for Ashland Oil Inc., the former owner operator of Lambert Satellite TV and a member of Buchanan Chapel and Greenhill Masonic Lodge. He was an avid CB radio operator, where he went by “Killer Bee.”
Sadly left behind is an adoring family that includes his wife Marilyn Tackett Lambert; one son Keith Lambert of Nashville, Tenn.; one daughter Jessica Lambert and Mike Morrison of Ashland; a brother Jim Lambert of Ashland; a sister Emma Rita Lambert of Columbus, Ohio; one precious granddaughter, Ava Jolee Lambert; stepchildren by marriage are Garland Bruce Alexander and Rhonda Michelle Nelson both of Ashland, and also three grandchildren. Additional survivors are the mother of Claude’s beautiful children, Alice Lambert, and a host of extended family and close friends.
Services in memorial for Mr. Lambert will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort and reassurance will be offered by Pastor Steve Mays. Final rest follows a solemn committal at Bolt Cemetery in Rush.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with Masonic rites observed at 7:30 p.m.
Lowell E. Reid (1932-2009)
Lowell E. Reid, 76, of Flatwoods died Saturday at his home. He was born June 21, 1932, in Carter County, the son of the late Eugene and Madge Offill Reid. He was the husband of Deanna McKenzie Reid, who survives. They were married Sept. 24, 1956. He was retired from AK Steel as a roll turner and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served during the Korean Conflict. He loved to garden and hunt and was a great grandfather and dad.
He also was preceded in death by one son, Eric Reid.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons and daughters-in-law, Marc and Maria Reid of St. Simons, Ga., and Shawn and Eileen Reid of Palm Bay, Fla.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Vickie and John McKinney of Raceland and Lisa Reid Cochran of Ashland; one sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Bill Callas of Haymarket, Va.; and five grandchildren, Amy and Ashley McKinney, Desiray Reid, Sean Steele and Allison Bruffy.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with Monty Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Eric Sparks (1937-2009)
Eric Sparks, 71, of Flatwoods went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 24, 2009, at his residence. He was born Nov. 17, 1937, in Sciotoville, Ohio, a son of the late Lemuel and Eva Mae Thomas Sparks. He was the husband of the late Laverne Gay Cameron Sparks. He was a retired pipe fitter for C&O Railroad and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Russell; Smith Lodge F&AM 775 in Flatwoods; the Scottish Rites in Covington; and El Hasa Shrine in Ashland where he was president of the Clown Unit in 1988.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, David Leroy Sparks and James Edward Sparks.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelly (Steve) Blanchette of Marianna, Fla., and Jackie (Butch) Roller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sons, Thomas (Ann) Sparks of Russell and Jonathan Sparks of West Palm Beach, Fla.; seven sisters, Barbara (Pete) Cox, Dorothy Root, Judy Hensley, Sarah (Charles) Fitch and Karen (Charlie Joe Sr.) Sammons, all of Ashland, Phyllis Mills of Louisa and Shirley Wills of Flatwoods; and six grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland with Masonic services at 7 p.m. by the Smith Lodge F&AM 775 of Flatwoods.
Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Phyllis Willis McBrayer (1935-2009)
Phyllis Willis McBrayer, 74, of Argillite, died Friday at her residence. She was born Jan. 23, 1935, in Flatwoods, the daughter of the late Eather and Lillian Holmes Willis. She was the wife of the late William G. McBrayer. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, W. Scott McBrayer of Argillite; and three sisters, Darlene Roark of Westwood, Madeline Sammons of Orlando, Fla., and Nancy Sammons of Argillite.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with Norman Staker officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Arthur Hinkle Jr. (1939-2009)
Arthur Hinkle Jr., 69, of Dunlow, W.Va., passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009, at his home. He was born Oct. 13, 1939, in Newtown, W.Va., a son of the late Dobie and Edith Kinder Hinkle. He was the husband of the late Gloria Jean Beckwith Hinkle. He was a coal miner and veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean Conflict.
He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Ann (Dotchie) Hinkle, Augusta (Gussy) May and Wanda Lee Dunbar.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie and James Lacock of Grayson and Edith and Mark Blackburn of Canada, Ky.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur Wayne and Rosanna Hinkle of Dunlow, Joseph T. and Bonita Hinkle of Gilbert, W.Va., and Johnny Paul and Jennifer Hinkle of Louisa; three sisters, Mary Alice Steel of Newtown, Louise Blankenship of Red Jacket, W.Va., and Brenda Fay Mudd of Wharncliff, W.Va.; one brother, Samuel Hinkle of Hickory, N.C.; five grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren; and a very special friend, Bobby Steele.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Young Funeral Home Chapel in Louisa with Roger Maynard and Noah Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the Sam Damron Cemetery in Dunlow.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Arthur Lewis Osburn, 83, of Westwood died Sunday at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born Jan. 29, 1926, in Raceland.
His wife, Charlene Arden Osburn, survives.

Guy Hershel Baldwin, 93, of Oil Springs died Saturday at the Highlands Regional Medical Center.
His wife, Merla Blanton Baldwin, survives.

Ray Monroe Ferguson, 61, of West Liberty died Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
His wife, Teresa Smith Ferguson, survives.

Addie Conley, 77, of Stambaugh died Sunday at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ashland.
Her husband, Roy Conley, survives.

He was born Oct. 15, 1936.
