Ruth Kramer Fairchild

Ruth Kramer Fairchild, 90, of Goodlettsville, Tenn., died April 22.

Ruth was born in Ashland, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Fairchild; parents, Leonard (Si) and Leota Kramer; sister, Alyce Dean Kramer; and brothers, Charles Kramer and Bob Lindemann.

Ruth is survived by a daughter, Gail (Alvin) Clark; son, Harold (JoAnne) Fairchild; grandchildren Kevin (Allison) and Kerry Fairchild and Eric (Karen) and Jennifer Clark; great-grandchildren Andy Fairchild and Harrison Clark; and great-great-grandchild Kegan Fairchild.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 25 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the funeral home, with interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30 at Connell United Methodist Church in Goodlettsville.

Paul E. Mayse - 1934-2008

Paul E. Mayse, 73, of Greenup, Ky., died April 23, 2008, in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Greenup County, Ky., a son of the late Wetzel and Irene McCoy Mayse.

In addition, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Jean Daniels Mayse; a daughter, Paula Gail Mayse; and a sister, Wanda Jean Potter.

He was a baker helper with Betsy Ross Bakery and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Raceland, Ky.

Surviving are two sons, Keith (Deidre) Mayse of Greenup and Darrell (Diana) Mayse of Wurtland, Ky.; a daughter, Karen (Danny) Webb of Raceland; a brother, Wetzel Mayse Jr. of Lloyd, Ky.; four stepbrothers, Harvey Mayse of Portsmouth, Va., Asa Mayse of Flatwoods, Ky., James Mayse of Westwood, Ky., and Scott Mayse of South Portsmouth; a sister, Loretta Damron of Huntington, W.Va.; a stepsister, Louise Stewart of South Shore, Ky.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 25 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Raceland by the Rev. Jim Daniels and the Rev. Carl Eldridge. Burial will be in Melvin Cemetery in Wurtland.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 24, 2008, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.



Paul David Rose - 1939-2008

Paul David Rose, 68, of Raceland, Ky., on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on the wings of angels, while surrounded by his loving family following a sudden illness.

He was born June 13, 1939, in Worthington, Ky., a son of the late George Sr. and Arizona Brown Rose. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Fern Knight and Mary Margaret Brown.

In addition to his great love for his family, he loved his community, where he served on the Raceland-Worthington Board of Education for 20 years. He had a great passion for sports and the youth of his community. He was a great coach and mentor to many youths throughout his life and was always their biggest and most loyal fan.

He was a retired maintenance inspector for AK Steel and a member of Worthington Church of the Nazarene and the Raceland Lions Club. He was a staunch supporter of the Raceland Athletic Boosters and the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

Paul is survived by his wife, best friend and soul mate, Laura Alice Coon Rose; two daughters, Paula Sue Rose of Charlotte, N.C., and Lauren Renee Rose of Raceland; a son, Timothy Dale Rose of St. Augustine, Fla.; three grandchildren, Summer Rose Schantz and Jessica Rose, both of Denver, Colo., and Alexandria Katlyn Rose of Raceland; a great-grandson, Tegan Gregory Schantz of Denver; and three brothers, Charles Rose of Raceland and George Rose Jr. and William Rose, both of Worthington, Ky.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at the Raceland-Worthington High School Auditorium by the Rev. Paul Neal. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the school auditorium.

James E. Pennington - 1936-2008

James E. Pennington of Argillite, Ky., passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 22 after an extended illness.

He was born July 29, 1936, in Greenup, Ky., the son of the late Charles and Alva Pennington.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ray Pennington; and a grandson, Nathaniel Todd Barker.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marcella Headley Pennington of Argillite; a daughter, Rhonda and husband Raymond Barker of Argillite; a daughter, Sonya and husband Larry Hennecke of Ashland; a son, Randy and wife Linda Pennington of Argillite; a son, Scott and wife Sue Pennington of Argillite; and a daughter, Jessica and husband Bud Griffith of Greenup; 13 grandchildren, Rachel Hennecke of Ashland, Shawn Barker of Argillite, Jacquline and husband Matt Stewart of Pippi Passes, Justin Barker of Argillite, Travis Hennecke of Ashland, Kimberly and husband BJ Adkins of Argillite, Jesse Pennington of Grayson, Daniel and wife Crystal Pennington of Lloyd, Justin Griffith of Greenup, Matthew Elswick of Argillite, Morgan Hennecke of Ashland, Melinda Pennington of Argillite and Sam Pennington of Argillite; a sister, Carolyn and husband John Pennington of Danleyton; a sister, Betti and husband Virgil Hamilton of Wurtland; a brother, Richard and wife Catherine Pennington of Argillite; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Kirby Flats Cemetery by Brother Frank Hackworth.

Visitation will be from 6 to p.m. today at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland.

Joan Slagel

Joan Weymouth Slagel, 68, of Ironton, died Tuesday, March 25 in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital as a result of damage done to her body during cancer treatment in the 1960s.

She was the wife of John Slagel and the mother of Kathy Nelson of Dallas, Texas, Robert Slagel of Ironton and David Slagel of Flatwoods, Ky. She had five grandchildren, Ashton and Holden Slagel of Flatwoods and Mason, Georgia and Lillian Kate Slagel of Ironton.

Her family, including her daughters-in-law, Lori and Elizabeth and son-in-law, Ty Nelson, were the love of her life. She is also survived by a brother, Jack Weymouth of Roswell, Ga.

Joan was a registered nurse. She was retired from Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. She attended college at Miami University, the University of Michigan, Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and finally graduated from Marshall at the age of 50, after seeing her children all graduate from college and become employed. Following her graduation from Marshall, she chose to work as a nurse for Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital so she might repay the medical community for saving her from cancer in the 1960s. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ironton and a frequent attendant of the United Methodist Church in Ironton.

Although there is no visitation, there will be a celebration of Joan’s life following her burial from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 2101 S. Third St., Ironton, Ohio.

Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah McCoy - 1944-2008

Sarah Lou Morris McCoy, 63, of Fairfield, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, died Monday in Mercy Hospital in Fairfield.

She was born July 31, 1944, in Baltimore.

Her husband, Walter A. McCoy Sr., died in 1986.

A graveside service will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at Dixon Cemetery in Westwood.

Friends may call from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland.



Imogene Keibler - 1927-2008

Imogene Carter Keibler, 81, of Waverly, Ohio, formerly of South Shore, died Tuesday in Pike County Hospital in Waverly.

She was born March 20, 1927, in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Her husband, Charles H. Keibler, died in 1993.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.



Otto Evans

Otto Evans, 78, of Greenup, died Wednesday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Malone Funeral Home in Grayson is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.



Ozel Brewer

Ozel Botts Brewer, 81, of Denniston, died Monday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

Her husband, Emery Brewer, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Menifee Home for Funerals in Frenchburg. Burial will be Mort Botts Cemetery in Denniston.



Andrew “Andy” Valentine - 1915-2008

Andrew “Andy” Valentine, 93, of Ironton, died Wednesday in Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

He was born March 20, 1915, in Greenup, Ky.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Junior Furnace Cemetery in Scioto County, with military rites by VFW Post 8850.

Friends may call an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
