Grant Johnson - 1962-2008
Robert Grant Johnson of Catlettsburg, loving husband and devoted father, stood face to face with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, April 20, 2008, passing from King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland following a very brief illness.
Grant was only 45 years of age, born Nov. 26, 1962, in Ashland, Ky., the son of Doris Storie of Catlettsburg and Robert Johnson and his wife, Pat, of Grayson.
He was a graduate of Boyd County High School Class of 1980, Pikeville College with a B.A. in mining technology and the Collins Career Center with a degree in orthopedic surgical technology. He was presently employed at King’s Daughters Medical Center Surgical Department and previously an employee of Ashland Oil Inc. Research and Development.
He was an avid outdoorsman and life scout, loving to fish, hunt, hike and camp, and a faithful member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, where he loved to worship with his church family. So quick witted and smart, one of God’s true treasures has passed from us in Grant.
Sadly, Grant leaves behind his loving wife of 18 years, Sharla Crump Johnson; a very precious son, Carson Johnson; a brother, Casey Johnson of Ashland; two sisters, Becky Clere and her husband, Joel, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Sue Ellen Johnson of Catlettsburg; brothers-in-law Shawn Crump and his wife, Sandy, and Preston Crump and his wife, Vicky, all of Ashland; nieces and nephews Michael Clere, Hayley Clere, Morgan Johnson, Daniel Crump, Kaylee Crump, Stacey Crump and Jennifer Messer; and a host of extended family.
A funeral service in honor of Grant Johnson will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Oakland Avenue Baptist Church in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort and inspiration will be offered by Pastor Mike Blankenship.
