Kenneth Jarvis (1919-2008)

Kenneth Jarvis, 89 of Westwood formerly of Fort Pierce, Fla., passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008.

Kenneth was born April 9, 1919, in Carter County, a son of the late Jace and Sadie Hall Jarvis. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Kenneth was a retired carpenter for EBASCO in Fort Pierce. He was a former member of Masonic Lodge #87 in Fort Pierce, a former member of Lakeworth Consistory in the Orient of Florida and a member of Fred M. Gross Lodge #953 F&AM.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Salyers.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie McComas Jarvis; three daughters, Carolyn (Michael) Doherty of Mount Vernon, Ind., Sandra (Gary) Whisenhunt, of Odessa, Texas and Connie (Allen) Wills of Alamogordo, N.M.; a sister, Thelma Coburn of Ashland; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; four special nephews, Kenny Coburn, Bill Coburn and Jimmy Coburn all of Ashland and Tony Salyers of Waterloo, Ohio; two nieces, Joy Newman, of Ashland and Beverly Salyers and a host of friends and extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted by nephews Kenny Coburn and Bill Coburn today, April 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood.

Friends may call one hour before the service today. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.



Wayne Vincent Fannin (1927-2008)

Wayne Vincent Fannin, 80, passed from this life on Thursday, April 17, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Lawrence County, Ky., the son of the late Ike and Audrey Smith Fannin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Nina Dorsey Fannin; a son, Kevin Fannin of Louisa; a daughter, Karen (Patrick) Stallings of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Trevor Fannin of Lexington, Tara Fannin of Joplin, Mo., and Jack and Lee Stallings of Houston; a sister, Nancy (Robert) Brooke of Florida; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah “June” Fannin Humphreys.

Wayne retired from Delco Products Division of General Motors Corp. in Dayton, Ohio, after 42 years of service, during which time he was awarded 32 patents on various electronic and component parts for automobiles. He was a 50-year member and past master of Green Hills Masonic Lodge 521 and Green Hills Chapter 567, and Order of Eastern Star where he served as chaplain.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in WWII.

Visitation will be Monday, April 21, 2008 at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland from 3 to 5 p.m. with funeral service at 5 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Tim Burton. Masonic and Eastern Star services will be at 4 p.m.

Interment will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Burial Park with military rites by Louisa American Legion Post 89.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lawrence County Animal Shelter, Isaac Road, Louisa, Ky., or American Cancer Society, Division of Multiple Myeloma.

Sarah Cushard (1930-2008)

Sarah Janie Harris Cushard, 78, of Vanceburg, died Wednesday in University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

She was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Lewis County.

Her husband, Joe Henry Cushard, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Camp Dix. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lewis County.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.



Clarice Flannery (1932-2008)

Clarice Elaine Flannery, 75, of Sandy Hook, died Thursday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

She was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Elliott County.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook. Burial will be in Flannery Cemetery in Elliott County.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. tonight and before the service Sunday at the funeral home.



Mary Meade (1943-2008)

Mary Jo Meadows Meade, 64, of Prestonsburg, died Thursday in Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.

She was born Nov. 6, 1943.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Community United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Davidson Memorial Gardens in Ivel.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. tonight and 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Carter Funeral Home in Prestonsburg.



Darwin “Bo” Blackburn Sr. (1939-2008)

Darwin “Bo” Henry Blackburn Sr., 68, of Blaine, died Thursday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born July 20, 1939, in Braeholm, W.Va.

His wife, Anna Rae Starr Blackburn, survives.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Blackburn Family Cemetery in Blaine with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 89.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Charles “Mutt” Boggs Sr. (1930-2008)

Charles “Mutt” Boggs Sr., 77, of Kitts Hill, husband of Janet M. Biars Boggs, died Thursday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Ashland.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at City Mission Church in Ironton. Burial will be in Haverhill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton.
