Betty Miller (1929-2008)
Betty L. Miller, 78, of Ashland died Monday, April 14, 2008, at her home.
The Princess, Ky., native was born July 14, 1929, the daughter of the late Arthur Scott Hicks and Hattie Pearl Short Hicks VanDyke. She was a former employee of the C.H. Parsons Co. hosiery department and did other retail sales. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, where she was a past madame president. She was a Kentucky colonel.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Hicks, and two sisters, Nora Abrams and Ruby Bocook.
Survivors include a son, Scott Miller of Ashland; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Hill and L.B. Tussey of Ashland; a sister, Alfreda Stambaugh of Ashland; grandchildren Chris Hughes, Josh Hughes, Summer Hill, Samantha Miller, Audrey Miller, Chase Miller, Jamie Hughes, Brandon Tussey, Christy Evans and Michael Evans; great-grandchildren Tyler Hughes, Taylor Hughes, Conner Hughes and Arianna Hill; a good friend, John Stevens; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Steve Gilreath. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be after noon Thursday at the funeral home.

Laura Prince (1920-2008)
Laura I. Prince, 87, of Ashland, died Monday, April 14, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born May 20, 1920, in Boyd County, the daughter of the late Forest L. Withrow and Lillie Wolfe.
She was the widow of late Oscar D. Prince. She was self-employed and did seamstress work for Stars and Don’s Men Shop. She was a member of Pollard Baptist Church and also attended Wayside Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Irene Prince in 1942.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert Lee Prince of Ashland, Gary R. and Norma Prince of West Liberty and Randy Michael and Nancy Prince of Flatwoods; a daughter, Brenda J. Phillips of Ashland; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle Withrow Hensley of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. McKinley Dean and the Rev. Clyde Bolling. Burial will be in Wellman-Prince Cemetery in Greenup.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Hartley Flannery (1926-2008)
Hartley Flannery, 81, of Westwood, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008, following an extended illness.
Hartley was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Elliott County, to the late Chauncy and Effie Click Flannery. He was a retired pipe fitter and welder with Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 248 and a member of South Ashland United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Flannery, and three sisters Madelyn Fannin, Juanita Adkins and Aleene McCord.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Esther Fannin Flannery; three daughters Terri (Pete) Wonn of Ashland, Joan (Tom) Johnston of Russell and Connie (Fred) Crace of Greenfield, Ind.; two sisters, Odell Weddington of Sandy Hook and Gay Payne of Pickerington, Ohio; four grandchildren, Sean Atkins, Todd Atkins, Jason Crace and Jay Wonn; and four stepgrandchildren Sally Taylor, Tobin Wonn, Ed Johnston and Kevin Johnston.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook by Pastor Lance Campbell. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood and after 11 a.m. Thursday at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Sean Atkins, Todd Atkins, Jason Crace, Jay Wonn, Tobin Wonn and Brad Taylor.

Linda Adams (1948-2008)
Linda Sue Prince Adams, 60, of Flatwoods, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 13, 2008, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born March 29, 1948, in Catlettsburg, the daughter of the late Dave Prince Sr. and Mary Mullins Prince. She was an employee of King's Daughters Medical Center Behavioral Medicine and a member of New Hope Church of God.
Sadly left behind is her loving husband of 32 years, Michael S. Adams; a son, Greg Adams of Millersville, Md.; a daughter, Mary Lynn Nivins of Chico, Calif.; five sisters, Brenda Little, Betty Lewis, Diane Hamilton and Donna Clay, all of Ashland, and Judy Moore of Catlettsburg; and four grandchildren, Jonah Adams, Christian Thornbury, Natalie Nivins and Nicole Nivins.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, David Prince Jr. and Kenneth L. Prince; and four sisters, Letha Marie Hamilton, Georgia Green, Barbara Mills and Rose Boyd.
A funeral service in memory of Linda Adams will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg by Pastor Ed Richardson. Final rest to be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Those wishing to pay respects to the Adams family may do so between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hazel Fannin (1918-2008)
Hazel Sweeney Fannin, 89, of South Shore, died Tuesday in South Shore Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born June 3, 1918, at Lynn.
Her husband, Beckham Fannin, preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Fannin Cemetery at Beechy.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Roy Thompson (1947-2008)
Roy Arthur Thompson, 60, of Louisa, died Monday in Louisa.
He was born Dec. 16, 1947, in Louisa.
His wife, Mexie Howard Thompson, survives.
There will be no funeral services.

Golda Gullett
Golda Howard Gullett, 78, of West Liberty, died Monday in Morgan County Appalachian Regional Hospital in West Liberty.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Kennard Cemetery in West Liberty.

Chester Barker
Chester Paul Barker, 84, of Frenchburg, died Sunday in St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Menifee Home for Funerals in Frenchburg. Burial will be in Barker Cemetery in Frenchburg.

Ray Preston (1924-2008)
Ray T. “Cotton” Preston died Monday in Mount Manor Nursing Facility.
He was born Dec. 12, 1924, in West Van Lear.
His wife, Roberta O’Bryan Preston, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery in Staffordsville.

May Hall (1920-2008)
May Puckett Hall, 88, of Morehead, died Tuesday in the Life Care Center in Morehead.
She was born March 12, 1920.
Her husband, Curtis Hall, preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery.

Frederick Rambacher (1924-2008)
Frederick Eugene “Gene” Rambacher, 83, of Ironton, died Monday at his residence.
He was born Sept. 6, 1924.
His wife, Joanne McKnight Rambacher, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ironton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Coal Grove.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home in Ironton, where there will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ironton.

Russell Saunders (1909-2008)
Russell Calvin Saunders, 98, of Garland, Texas, formerly of Ironton, died Sunday.
He was born Dec. 21, 1909, in Gallia County, Ohio.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton.
Memorials may be made to the Sharon Baptist Church Building Fund, 2010 S. Fifth St., Ironton, OH 45638.
