Lucille Bowling - 1926-2008
Lucille V. Bowling, 81, of Ashland, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
The Whites Creek, W.Va., native was born May 17, 1926, the daughter of the late Freddy Lee and Mary Anne Howard Blanton. She was the wife of James Walter Bowling Sr., who survives. She was a member of Moore Street Tabernacle and was a devoted homemaker.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons and daughters-in-law, James Walter Jr. and Karen Bowling, John Michael and Shelia Bowling, Randall Lee and Pamela Jo Bowling and Larry Eugene and Paula Sparks; three daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Charles Johnson, Rosemary and Ronald Blevins and Judy and Danny Terry; a sister, Betty Gammel of Alcoa, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel by Pastor Jerry Dickerson. Entombment will be in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Martha Conley - 1925-2008
Martha M. Carpenter Conley, 83, of Winchester, died Friday, April 11, 2008, in Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester.
She was born Feb. 6, 1925, at State Road, the daughter of the late Ernest E. and Anna Belle Conley Carpenter. She was the widow of Murvel Conley. She was a Baptist and the former owner and operator of Martha’s Salon of Beauty in Ashland.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Sara Carpenter and Katherine Blanton.
Survivors include a son, Larry J. Conley of Winchester; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard F. and Jo Ann Carpenter of Wooster, Ohio, and John E. and Selma Carpenter of Salyersville; three grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Laura Conley and Carrie and Mike Hazlett, all of Winchester, and Channon K. and Mark Horn of Lexington; and five great-grandchildren, Kate Conley and Morgan and Will Hazlett, all of Winchester, and Claire and Carson Horn, both of Lexington.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel by Dr. Don Mathis. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Carpenter, John E. Carpenter, Chris Conley, Rusty Conley, Brad Conley and Dr. Joe Carpenter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dewey Patton and James Estepp.

Robert McGinnis Sr. - 1932-2008
Robert McGinnis Sr. 76, of Ashland, formerly of Grayson, went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 11, 2008.
He was born March 5, 1932, in Carter City, a son of the late John Henry and Sarah Staggs McGinnis. He was a member and a deacon at Smith Creek Christian Holiness Church and a retired truck driver.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mae Blankenship, and a brother, Eugene McGinnis.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Anna Hill McGinnis of Ashland; two sons, Robert McGinnis Jr. of Ashland and Michael McGinnis of Clearwater Fla.; a daughter, Sharon Porter of Hitchins; a brother Tom McGinnis of Catlettsburg; two sisters, Betty Burnett of Ashland and Fern Burnett of Iron Hill; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by Michael McGinnis and Bill Burnett. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

JoAnn Parker - 1933-2008
JoAnn Lunsford Parker, 74, of Ashland (Russell) went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 11, 2008, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
She was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Tandy and Grace Wilson Lunsford.
She was a lifelong resident of Ashland, having moved to Russell in 1994. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who thought of others before herself. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Ashland York Rite Ladies Auxiliary.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Craycraft and Betty Jean Barker.
Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, Richard L. “Dick” Parker; two daughters, Leigh Ann Baker and husband Doug and Darlene Riley and husband Clarence, all of Ashland; two sons, Richard L. Parker II of Alexandria, Va., and Mark A. Parker and fianceé Alice Lehew of Jackson, Ohio; four grandchildren, Whitney Baker, Lindsey Parker, Joel Parker and Kim Sansom; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Sansom and Jacob Laney; a sister-in-law and her husband, Mary Kathleen and Paul Justice of Glasgow; and a brother-in-law and his wife, William S. and Gene Parker of Toledo.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Ike Nicholson and the Rev. Bill Vallance. Graveside services and burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bloomingburg Cemetery in Bloomingburg, Ohio (Washington Court House).
Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jaime Jarrell - 1955-2008
Jaime Jarrell, 52, of Russell, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 12, 2008, at the family farm in Olive Hill.
He was born Nov. 19, 1955, in Baumholder, Germany, and was a son of the late Frederick B. and Sara Lou Adams Jarrell.
He was an accountant for Ashland Inc. in Russell. He was an associate with Century 21, Brooks Wells Enterprises. He was a member of First Christian Church in Olive Hill and also attended Bridges Christian Church in Russell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mae Cline Bond.
Jaime is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeffrey and Felice Jarrell of Olive Hill, Jack and Joetta Jarrell of Ashland and Jhan and Sandra Jarrell of Olive Hill; two sisters and brothers-in-law; Jada Jarrell and W. Lynn Johnson and Julie and Steve Porter, all of Olive Hill; two stepgranddaughters, Sydney T. Wright and Kaitlyn Utley; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill by Brother Dave Shanklin. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday and before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Rex Pennington, 40, of Catlettsburg, died Sunday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Marie Maynard - 1930-2008
Marie “Moe” Maynard, 77, of Catlettsburg, died Saturday in King’s Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Catlettsburg.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg.

Travis Alan King, 29, of Olive Hill, passed away Friday at his residence,
He was born March 1, 1979, in Oakland County, Mich., a son of Gary Alan King and Sharolyn Brown King, both of Michigan.

Mable Irene Tackett Blanton, 80, of Prestonsburg, died Friday in Riverview Health Care Center.
She was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Johnson County.
Her husband, Everett “Tubby” Blanton, preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Jayne Family Cemetery in Staffordsville.
