Robin Kruger Qualls - 1962-2008
Robin Kruger Qualls, born Dec. 6, 1962, in Eau Claire, Wis., passed away, due to complications from aplastic anemia, and went to her eternal home on April 6, 2008.
She was surrounded by family and friends at the University of Louisville Hospital and crossed in peace and love.
Robin was a woman of boundless energy and vitality, unequaled kindness and compassion for others, and unwavering faith. Without exception, when people remark about Robin they speak of her great love for all people, her utter lack of pretense or prejudice and her insistence on seeing the positive aspect of any situation or person. Simply put, Robin made people smile whether they wanted to or not.
Until Robin was eight years old, she lived in Wisconsin. It was at that age she was diagnosed with a mostly fatal blood disorder, aplastic anemia, and was not expected to live beyond her early adolescence. But Robin was never one to give up without a fight, even as a child.
After being diagnosed, Robin spent nearly three months in the Mayo Clinic Hospital battling her disease and to her various medical teams constant amazement, defied the odds. In fact, according to the Mayo Clinic, Robin is the longest living person on record to have struggled with aplastic anemia.
She graduated from Seneca High School, Illinois, in 1981, and subsequently earned her medical lab technician degree from Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. in 1984. It was during her time at MU that she met her future husband, Curt Qualls, of Ashland, Ky.
Robin and Curt married in Catlettsburg on Oct. 5, 1986. They lived and worked in Kingsport and Bristol, Tenn., Carollton, Sandy Springs and Marietta, Ga., Louisville, Ky., and most recently in Jeffersonville, Ind.
In the last years of her life, Robin was a senior consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics, and a silver executive for Univera Life Sciences, and succeeded in both. Those who worked with and for her comment about the infectiousness of Robin’s enthusiasm, the way in which she was able to encourage others to be the best they could be.
Robin was a member of the LaBelle Chapter 419 of Eastern Star, BNI (Business Networking International) and Profit Builders.
Robin’s passing is a great loss, not only to her family but to all who knew her or who were touched by her warmth. Although her parents separated when she was five, their separation ultimately gave Robin two nuclear families and a large extended family, and she was always conscious and thankful of the blessing this entailed.
In addition to her loving husband, Curt, Robin is survived by her parents, Rodney and Rosemary Kruger of Eau Claire; her brother, Douglas Kruger Patton and his wife, JoAnn of Bowling Green, Ky.; her sister, Jenny Kruger of Minneapolis, Minn.; brothers, Travis Kruger and Mark Kruger of Wisconsin; stepfather, Larry Patton of Ransom, Ill.; parents-in-law, William and Carolyn Qualls of Ashland, Ky.; sister-in-law, Ann Qualls of Ashland; uncles, Richard Stai of Ashland, David Stai of Eau Claire and Bill Stai of Minnesota; aunt, Marian Syverson of Colfax, Wis.; and godchildren, Aaron and Laura Grizzle of Ashland.
Robin was preceded in death in November, 2007 by her mother, Janet Patton of Ransom; her uncle, Jack Stai; and grandparents, William and Eva Stai, Mary and Tim Brown, Charles Kucera and Melvin Kruger.
Robin will be missed by her surviving friends and family more than words could possibly convey.
A celebration of life service was held for her earlier this week. Those who would like to view the event may do so at http://scottfuneralhome.com
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Brown Cancer Center in Louisville.
