Cloma Robinson - 1915-2008
Cloma Elizabeth Robinson, 92, of Ashland died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Kingsbrook Life Care Center in Ashland. She was born July 16, 1915, in Elliott County, the daughter of the late Allen and Gemimah Johnson. She was the wife of the late Clyde S. Robinson. She will be remembered for her great love for Christ and her family. Her thoughts were always for others. Cloma was an accomplished cook and owned and operated the Paramount Restaurant in Ashland for several years with her sister, Mary Lee Johnson. Cloma also worked in a defense plant in Lansing, Mich., building B-24 planes while her husband fought on the Asian front during World War II.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters, all of Ashland, Clyde Johnson, Claude Johnson, Gladys Mullins, Mary Johnson, Ruby McMahan and Thelma Brackman.
Survivors include a son, Roger Robinson and his wife, Marjorie of Ashland; a sister, Lorayne Creech of Ashland; two grandchildren, Roger Robinson Jr. (Cindy) and Jill Robinson; six great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Casey, Kelli, Corey, Kaylee and Kenzi Robinson.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Second Freewill Baptist Church by Pastor Randy Skaggs. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Second Freewill Baptist Church, 2121 29th Street, Ashland, Ky. 41101.

Bill Wechsler - 1934-2008
Bill Wechsler departed the presence of his family early Saturday morning March 22, 2008, and will dwell eternally with the Heavenly Father, who has surrounded him with strength and made his way perfect.
Mr. Wechsler was 73 years of age, a lifelong resident of Catlettsburg, born Sept. 25, 1934, a son of the late Chester and Gladys Benedict Wechsler. Bill is a graduate of Thomas R. Brown High School class of 1952, protected the freedoms of our great nation with service in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, and the Naval Reserves, and was employed at A.K. Steel Coke Plant, Metallurgical Lab, retiring after 40 years as an employee. He was a member of the Boyd County Democratic Executive Committee, American Legion, Catlettsburg Community Development, Catlettsburg Main Street, past chairman CHS Alumni Committee, member U.S.S. Baltimore Alumni, a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church in Catlettsburg.
Bill leaves behind his soulmate of 53 years, Natalie "Tally" Staton Wechsler. Their loving home was blessed with one wonderful daughter, Lynne Savage and her husband Tony, of Catlettsburg; and one grandson Shawn Savage, his wife Marlene of Ashland. Sadly, Bill's passing also leaves Mrs. Connie Curnutte, her husband Watt of Catlettsburg as the last surviving child of Chester and Gladys Wechsler. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Sonia Stumbo, Patty Wechsler, Lou Wechsler; brother-in-law, the Rev. Harold Brown; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Passing on before has been a beautiful granddaughter Kristyn Savage; five sisters Cora Brown, Marjorie Edison, Betty Gosnell, Chestine Burns and Marilyn Dunbar and two brothers, Paul Wechsler and Charles Wechsler.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 25th, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Catlettsburg. Pastor Richard Brown will offer words of comfort. Final rest at Catlettsburg Cemetery.
Calling hours for the Wechsler family is Monday evening between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. at the Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg.
In lieu of floral tributes, the Bill Wechsler family has graciously requested contributions be sent to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Animal Control Center, 1025 Bob McCullough Drive, Ashland, KY 41102, or the First Presbyterian Church, 2512 Broadway Street, Catlettsburg, KY 41129.

Doretta Garvin - 1922-2008
Doretta M. Garvin, 86, of Flatwoods died Sunday in Flatwoods. She was born Jan. 18, 1922, the daughter of the late Ora Lee and Beatrice Culbertson McKenzie. She was the wife of the late John Garvin.
She was a member of Advance Memorial United Methodist Church in Flatwoods and was a member of the 747th Railroad Battalion Club.
She also was preceded in death by five brothers, Ora, Rodney, Gordon, Bill and Roger; and two sisters, Winfred Cales and Fern Conlon.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Jim Wagner of Centerville, Ohio, Janet and Ed Samuel of Orlando, Fla., and Johanna and Bob Meyer of Flatwoods; six grandchildren, John Samuel, Chuck Samuel, Susan Basingern, Jennifer Brown, Bobbi Preston and Dave Meyer; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth McKenzie of Worthington and Jess McKenzie of Gainsville, Fla.; and one sister, Lois Tester of Hillsboro, Ohio.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Advance Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don Young officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Oakmont Manor for all the love and care over the last two and one-half years.

Phillip Newland - 1957-2008
Phillip Ray “Buddy” “Shorty” Newland, 50, of Crane Creek Road, Grayson, husband of Jackie Lou Bradford Newland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 21, 2008, in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
He was born June 17, 1957, in Grayson, a son of John Clarence Newland and the late Opal Faye Campbell Newland.
He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Geraldine Bradford.
Phillip attended Rockdale Freewill Baptist Church. He was employed by the Asplundh Tree Co. for 30 years and was currently employed as a conductor trainee by CSX Railroad. He graduated from East Carter High School and the REDI Conductor Training School in Atlanta.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Jeremy Newland of Lansing, Mich.; a daughter, Misty (Chris) Branham of Grayson; a grandson, Hunter Chase Branham; his father-in-law, Kenneth Bradford of Grayson; a brother, John (Carolyn) Newland of Webbville; three sisters, Linda (Bob) Leadingham and Jeannie (George) Martin, both of Grayson, and Brenda (Nick) Bradford of Vermontville, Mich., two sisters-in-law, Kenni (Randall) Redmond and Tonia (Mark) Hutchinson, both of Argillite; many family and friends; and a very special friend, Shadow.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by Joe Hutchinson and Johnny Stapleton, ministers. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery on Crane Creek in Grayson.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Rich Bradford, Josh Bradford, John Leadingham, Bruce Martin, Darrin Brown and Kimmy Brown.

Roy Eugene Gillam, 55, of Ashland died Sunday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was the husband of Kathy Gillam, who survives.

Nuna Maxine Webb, 82, of Flatwoods died Sunday at Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods.

The Rev. Lewis Ray Porter Jr., 44, of Simpsonville, formerly of Greenup County, died Saturday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Rondall Clay - 1954-2008
Rondall Gene “Ron” Clay, 54, of Olive Hill died Saturday at his home.
He was born Jan. 12, 1954, in Carter County.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Fultz Cemetery on Greasy Creek in Olive Hill.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today and anytime before the service hour on Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Chester Basham
Chester D. Basham, 63, of Salyersville died Saturday.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Magoffin County Funeral Home.
Visitation will be anytime today.

Rachael Picazo - 1925-2008
Rachael Overstreet Picazo, 82, of Morehead died March 18, 2008, at her home.
She was born May 10, 1925.
Her husband, Mardy E. Picazo, survives.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Morehead United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lee Cemetery.
Visitation will be at noon Tuesday at the church.

Howard Sizemore - 1946-2008
Howard E. Sizemore, 62, of Kitts Hil died Friday at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born Jan. 18, 1946, in Ironton.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Puckett Cemetery in Pedro.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillipos Funeral Home in Ironton.
