Ocie Robinson

Ocie Robinson, 80, of Lexington, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

Born in Manchester, she was the daughter of the late Henry Barrett and Mary Collins Henderson.

She was retired from the Campbell House Inn and was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church.

Survivors are her children, Matthew (Barbara June) Robinson and Emmitt Robinson Jr., both of Lexington, Rosemary (David) Roar, Glenn (Julie) Robinson and Lynn R. (Rodney) Baker, all of Olive Hill, Ky., and Elaine Robinson of Grayson, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Faye) Burns of Waynesburg, Ky.; and a sister, Brenda (Donald) Wilson of Crab Orchard, Ky.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; two brothers, Robert Burns and H.C. Collins; a sister, Rosella Burns; and three grandchildren, Betty Robinson, Frank Robinson and Anna Young.

Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. in Lexington. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.



David A. Arthur - 1923-2008

David A. Arthur, 84, of Ashland, Ky., died Thursday, March 20, 2008 in Woodland Oaks Nursing Home.

Mr. Arthur was born July 8, 1923, in Ironton, Ohio, a son of the late Morris Lee and Vivian Lee Hawkins Arthur.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Jean Arthur.

He was a retired pipefitter and welder with Dayton Malleable. He was an Army Air Corps sergeant who served during World War II and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of BPO Elks 350, American Legion Clarence Fields Post 76 and the Air Force Association.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara R. Foit Arthur; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis (Karen) Arthur of Lexington, Ky.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Rose Marie Thomas of Ashland, Janet (Tom) Matthews of Lexington, Ky., Mary Alice (Lewis) Gardner of Lexington and Andrea (Mike) Pickard of Lexington; grandchildren Lori Hodges, Katlyn, Jordan and Claire Arthur, Edward and Jack Matthews, Abigail Thomas, Victoria Zee Gardner and John David Childress; a great-grandchild, Caroline Hodges; and a brother, Condit Lee (Jean) Arthur of Ashland.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Charles E. Stewart. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Ironton with military rites by Ceredo-Kenova American Legion Post 93.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008, at funeral home.

Pallbearers will be sons-in-law and grandsons.

Zenobia "Nobie" Criss - 1929-2008

Zenobia "Nobie" Gibbs Criss, 78, of Lexington, Ky., surrounded by her loving family, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in Hospice of the Bluegrass in Lexington.

Mrs. Criss was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Catlettsburg, a daughter of the late Homer William Gibbs and Roanna Cumpston Gibbs Eldridge. She was born and raised in Catlettsburg and employed for several years as a telephone operator for General Telephone in Catlettsburg.

Nobie will always be remembered for sending cards to her family and friends, never missing a birthday or anniversary, and would send well over 100 cards each year. She was a loving, thoughtful woman who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Zenobia leaves behind her adoring husband of 50 years, Ray Criss; her brother-in-law, Charles Criss and his wife, Betty, of Ashland; sisters-in-law, Carol Criss of Brunswick, Ga., and Myrtle Gibbs of Indianapolis; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles “Bus” Gibbs, William Gibbs and Joseph Eldridge; and two sisters, Sybil Lunsford and Sonia Sullivan.

A funeral service in honor of Zenobia Criss will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort and reassurance will be offered by Pastor Butch Crum. Final rest will be Woodland Cemetery in Ironton, Ohio.

Those wishing to call on the Criss family may do so from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.



Eula Blevins - 1932-2008

Eula Blevins, 76, of Wurtland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2008, in Jo Lin Health Care Center in Ironton, Ohio.

Mrs. Blevins was born Jan. 14, 1932, in Riceville, Ky., a daughter of the late Luther Trimble and the late Tellie Tackett Posey.

She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Dema Wilson and Donna Faye Stewart; a son, Michael Reynolds; two sisters, Linda Trimble and Wanda Trimble; and four great-grandchildren.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Diana Evans of Greenup, Ky.; six sons, Larry Stewart, Gary Reynolds and Don Reynolds, all of Indiana, Bobby Reynolds of Wurtland, Charles “Bill” Reynolds of Flatwoods, Ky., and Ron Reynolds of Russell, Ky.; four sisters, Beulah Chambers and Arminta Copley, both of Ashland, Ky., Mable Johnson of Westwood, Ky., and Anna Spears of Ironton; two brothers, James Trimble of Lexington, Ky., and Delmer Trimble of Owingsville, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Jimmy Rice. Burial will be in Caroline Cemetery in Raceland.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.



James M. Bramblett Jr. - 1924-2008

James M. Bramblett Jr., 83, of Lloyd, Ky., died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at his residence.

He was born May 11, 1924, in South Portsmouth, Ky., a son of the late James M. Sr. and Etta Cathrine McGlone Bramblett. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Wright Bramblett, in 2003 and a son, Jimmy Dale Bramblett, in 1943.

He was a retired carman’s helper for CSX Transportation, a member of Little Mary Old Regular Baptist Church and the Brotherhood of Railway Carman and a World War II Navy veteran.

Surviving are three sons, Kenneth Bramblett and his wife, Darlene, of Flatwoods, Ky., William Bramblett and his wife, Barbara, of Raceland, Ky., and Ronald Bramblett and his wife, Connie, of Ashland, Ky.; two daughters, Vicki Fraley and her husband, Rodney, of Greenup and Connie Weaver (Edwin Rhodes) of Lloyd, Ky.; a brother, Robert V. Bramblett of Lloyd; a sister, June Stone of Tucson, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup by Elders Creed Thomas, Paul Boggs and Gary Blevins. Burial will be in Warnock Cemetery in Warnock, Ky.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008, at the funeral home.

A military graveside service will be by South Shore American Legion.

Ronnie B. Evans - 1943-2008

Ronnie B. Evans, 64, of Russell, Ky., died March 20, 2008, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

He was born April 11, 1943, in Delbarton, W.Va., a son of the late John W. and Ella White Evans.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Evans.

He was a retired meat salesman with Fischer Meat Packing Co. He was a high school basketball, football and baseball official for more than 15 years, a member of the North Eastern Kentucky Football Officials Association, the North Eastern Kentucky Basketball Association and the Whirlaways Square Dance Club of Russell and attended First Baptist Church of Russell.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Laura Jean O’Brien Evans of Russell; sons Brian (Karen) Evans of Louisville, Ky., and Chris Evans of Russell; a daughter, Lisa Evans-Price of Flatwoods; a brother, Vernie “Bud” (Marilyn) Shepherd of Hebron, Ohio; a sister, Sue Mahone of Delbarton; and grandchildren Emilee Evans-Price, Sarah Evans and John Evans.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Russell by Pastor Ken Gowin.

Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Jean Thompson Ewing - 1944-2008

Shirley Jean Thompson Ewing, 63, of Grayson, Ky., Very Special Mother and Very Loved, died Thursday, March 20.

She was born May 7, 1944, in Nelson County, Ky., daughter of the late Dudley Thompson and the late Jenny Ann Hardin Thompson.

Shirley was a member of First Church of Christ in Grayson and was employed by the Kentucky Department of Transportation as timekeeper-DOT.

She is survived by three daughters, Kimberly (John) Brunson of Lexington, Ky., and Janice (Cory) Keller and Allison (Damon) Keller, both of Grayson; brothers Dudley Thompson Jr. of Leitchfield, Ky., Michael Thompson of Boston, Ky., and Jody Thompson of Leitchfield; sisters Della Zimmerman of Dunkirk, Idaho, Doris McCubbins of Shepherdsville, Ky., Darlene Thompson and Patsy Thompson, both of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Denise Baker of Boston, Ky.; and a special friend, her boyfriend, Virgil Hanshaw of Lawton, Ky.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Adele, Mallory, Lauren, Hunter, Tara Beth, Caleb, Taylor, Amber, Rhea, Derek and Joshua; and a great-grandson, Owen.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carolyn House.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, at First Church of Christ in Grayson by Tim Nischan, minister.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Grayson.

Charles Cremeans Jr., 81, of Westwood, husband of Sylvia Hayes Cremeans, died Friday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Homer W. Adkins, 97, of South Shore, died Wednesday in Heartland of Portsmouth, Ohio.

He was born in Greenup County.

His wife, Oma Justice Adkins, died in 1981.

Phillip Newland

Phillip Newland, 50, of Greenup County, husband of Jackie, died Friday in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.

Reva Jackson Mullins, 90, of Salyersville, died Thursday.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Magoffin County Funeral Home in Salyersville.



Charlene Rackey - 1952-2008

Charlene Newsome Rackey, 55, of Hi Hat, died Thursday in Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 11, 1952, in McDowell.

Her husband, Johnny Wayne Rackey, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Samaria Regular Baptist Church in Teaberry. Burial will be in Newman Cemetery in Hi Hat.

Otto Cesco, 87, of Prestonsburg, husband of Geraldine Burchett Cesco, died Thursday in Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.

Timothy Lewis - 1964-2008

Elizabeth “Liz” Buttry - 1942-2008

Elizabeth “Liz” Pennington Buttry, 65, of Morehead, died Thursday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

She was born June 4, 1942.

Her husband, Ronald Wayne “Specks” Buttry, survives.
