Mary Comstock - 1924-2008
Mary Sue Ross Comstock, 84, of Rush, Ky., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 15, 2008 in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Comstock was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Boyd County, Ky., a daughter of the late Paul and Edna Earl Bolt Ross. Her husband, Robert Comstock, preceded her in death. She was a retail inspector with Sylvania Electric and attended Ross Chapel.
Mary leaves behind her loving family; a son, Paul Ed Comstock of Delaware, Ohio; a daughter, Janice Jones of Mount Vernon, Ohio; two brothers, Clyde Ross of Rush and Tom Ross of Ashland; three sisters, Wanda Lou Henry of Catlettsburg, Jeanette Howard of Plain City, Ohio, and Dorothy Morgan of Cocoa, Fla.; and one grandchild, Jennifer Comstock.
Preceding her in death are two brothers, Bill Ross and Hanley Ross; and two sisters, Phyllis Davis and Pauline Yakley.
A funeral service in honor of Mary Comstock will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Ross Chapel in Rush. Pastor David Porter will offer words of comfort. Final rest will follow in Ross Cemetery in Rush.
Those wishing to call on the Comstock family may do so between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. tonight at the Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg.
Jo Ann McDavid Osborne - 1935-2008
Jo Ann McDavid Osborne, 72, of Ashland, Ky., went to be with her Lord Sunday, March 16, 2008 at her son’s residence in Louisville, Ky.
She was born Aug. 23, 1935, in Grayson, Ky., a daughter of the late Henry and Cloma Oney McDavid.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Oak Springs United Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were a grandson, Warren Joseph Kemper and a brother, Elba Harold McDavid.
Her survivors include her husband, Paul W. Osborne of Ashland; two sons, Robert Lee Kemper of Crane Creek in Greenup County, Ky., and Dr. William E. (Sherry) Kemper of Louisville; two stepchildren, Paul N. Osborne of Hilton Head, S.C., and Melissa Henderson of Ashland; one brother, Charles C. McDavid of Bellefonte, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Tim Porter, minister. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday after 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Ethel Swim - 1932-2008
Ethel Swim, 75, of Ashland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 16, 2008 in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Swim was born Oct. 28, 1932, in Greenup County, Ky., a daughter of the late Jack and Rebecca Hicks Kelley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Swim Jr.; two sons, Michael Doolin and Philip Doolin; three sisters, Mary Kelley, Pearlie Kelley, and Tempy Kelley; and two brothers, William Kelley and Martin Kelley.
She was a member of the Old Sand Gap United Baptist Church and a member of the former Gone to Pieces Quilt Club in Westwood.
Surviving are four daughters, Pat (Bob) Sloan of South Point, Ohio, Betty Shepherd of Greenbrier, Tenn., Bonnie (Joe) Fisher of Raceland, Ky., and Debi (Erich) Siebel of Catlettsburg, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by Elders Frank Blevins and Perry Moore. Burial will be in Oldfield Cemetery in Naples, Ky.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Charles “Mickey” Creswell - 1927-2008
Charles D. “Mickey” Creswell, 81, of Catlettsburg, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mr. Creswell was born March 1, 1927, in Nashville, Tenn., a son of the late Joseph Terry and Minnie Council Creswell.
Mickey proudly served with the United States Army during World War II, was a driver/terminal manager with Liquid Transporters for more than 30 years, and a member of Burnaugh Baptist Church.
Sadly left behind are his loving wife, Judy Branham Creswell; four sons, Mike Creswell and his wife, Laura of Catlettsburg, Robin Creswell and his wife, Debbie of South Point, Ohio, Tim Creswell of Ashland, and Kevin Creswell of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Burton Creswell of Nashville; and seven precious grandchildren.
A graveside service for Mickey Creswell will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland. The Rev. Pete Miller will offer words of comfort.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Creswell to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101.

Michael Grimm - 1949-2008
Michael Grimm, 58, of Flatwoods, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 16, 2008, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Mr. Grimm was born Aug. 29, 1949, in Paintsville, Ky., a son of Dorothy Hill Grimm of Ashland, Ky., and the late Robert Doyle Grimm. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Timothy Grimm.
He was a retired lab technician for AK Steel, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of Elks in Ashland, American Legion in Flatwoods, Kentucky High School Athletic Association and a member of various bowling leagues.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Junko Mihata Grimm; one son, Kenneth Michael Grimm and his wife, Rosa of Flatwoods; two sisters, Teresa Grimm of Chicago and Jennifer Ross and her husband, Doug of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Jeffrey Grimm and his wife, Wendy of Ashland; and one sister-in-law, Sandy Grimm of Ashland.
Friends may call at 5 p.m. with a memorial service at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Susan Alley.
Family and friends are invited to the Normal Presbyterian Church on Winchester Avenue, Ashland after services for an informal gathering to share in the life, love and memories of Michael.

Esther Blevins - 1915-2008
Esther Blevins, age 92, of Russell, Ky., died Monday, March 17, 2008 in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
She was born Dec. 15, 1915, in Bruin, Ky., (Elliott County), a daughter of the late William Wesley Evans and Eliza Mullins Evans.
In addition, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Robinson; a son, Harold Gene Robinson; and seven brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Blevins was a homemaker and a member of Ironville Enterprise Baptist Church for 50 + years.
Surviving are her husband, Lundie Blevins Sr. of Russell; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie (Anna) Robinson of Ashland; two daughters and a son-in-law, Catherine (Earl) Lavender of Ashland and Arlene Nicely of Raceland, Ky.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Robinson of Raceland; three stepchildren, Lundie Jr. (Becky) Blevins of Westwood, Ky., Marvin (Sheree) Creech of Mooreville, Ind., and Charles Blevins of El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy (Paul) Bowling of Westwood.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Jack Salyers and Larry Lavender, minister. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Dorothy Knipp - 1930-2008
Dorothy Knipp, 77, of Grayson, Ky., went to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 16, 2008 in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Iron Hill, Ky., a daughter of the late Morton and Georgia Willis Counts.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were a son, Freddie Nathan Knipp; four brothers, George, Cecil, Hord and Norman Counts and a granddaughter, Monda Knipp.
Her survivors include her husband of 61 years, Garland Edward Knipp of Grayson; one son, Larry Edward (Patricia Gail) Knipp of Grayson; two daughters, Trish Knipp and Brenda Sexton, both of Grayson; three sisters, Dixie Everman of Grayson, Betty Vincent of Ashland, Ky., and Clarice Claxon of Grayson; five grandchildren, Wayne Edward Sexton, Tyler Jordan Sexton, Laura Stevens, Miranda Duncan and Ryan Knipp; and five great-grandchildren, Gavin Edward Sexton, Megan Sexton, Ashby Stevens, Lara Gail Stevens and Peyton Duncan.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Bob Church officiating. Burial will be in Grayson Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday after 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

Minerva Q. Fraley - 1929-2008
Minerva Q. Fraley, 78, of Jeannette, Pa., formerly of South Point, Ohio, and Apache Junction, Ariz., died Sunday, March 16, 2008 in Latrobe Hospital in Latrobe, Pa.
She was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Boyd County, Ky., a daughter of the late Charlie Brown Queen and Anna Kouns Queen.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Fraley in 1999; two sons-in-law, Rev. Gene Heiselt and Pastor Dale Womack; four sisters, Lora Helen Queen, Betty Beavers, Garnett Campbell and Lucy Storms.
She was a retired emergency room clerk for the Lawrence County Medical Center. She was a member of Crossroad Baptist Church of Apache Junction and a graduate of Boyd County High School.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Deanna Fraley of Dighton, Kan.; three daughters, Teresa Heiselt of Apache Junction, Sharon Womack of Jeannette and Karen and Gary Werner of South Point; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton, Ohio, by Brother Danny Goins and her grandson, Matthew Womack officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point (Lawrence County).

Nancy Evans, 65, of Ashland, died Saturday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 20, 1942, in Huntington, W.Va.

Goldia Combs - 1921-2008
Goldia Combs, 86, of Columbus, Ohio, died March 11 in Mount Carmel West in Columbus.
She was born Nov. 13, 1921, in Lawrence County.
Her husband, Clyde Combs, died in 2001.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Combs Cemetery in Wittensville.

Dorothy Hamilton - 1928-2008
Dorothy Hamilton, 79, of Drift, wife of the late Kelly Hamilton, died Saturday at her residence.
She was born July 2, 1928, in Bevinsville.

Elizabeth Castle - 1930-2008
Elizabeth Holbrook Adams Castle, 78, of Sitka, died Monday in Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville.
She was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Breathitt County.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Marvin H. Adams in 1986 and Oscar Castle in 1989.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Adams Family Cemetery in Sitka.

Vinson Watts Sr. - 1929-2008
Vinson Alan Watts Sr., 78, of Morehead, died Monday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born Dec. 23, 1929.
His wife, Patty Ann Ascough Watts, survives.
