Edith Crooks Gay (1923-2008)
Edith Crooks Gay, age 84, of Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday morning, March 12, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
She was born May 10, 1923, in Mount Sterling, Ky., a daughter of the late Morris and Alice Hill Crooks.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Gay who died in 1987; eight brothers; and a sister.
Mrs. Gay was a former employee of Dr. Gerald Reams and Sam Mansbach. She was a member of Johnson Memorial CME Church in Ashland, where she was an usher board chairperson and a member of the Bethune Homemakers.
Surviving are an adopted daughter, Betty Medley of South Point, Ohio, formerly of Ashland; and a host of loving nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephew’s family members and friends.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Aaron L. Moss. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Proctor D Mullins (1939-2008)
On Thursday morning, March 13, 2008, Proctor D Mullins, age 68, of Ashland, Ky., was called home to be with his Heavenly Father.
He was born May 27, 1939, in Boyd County, Ky., a son of the late Allen and Mary Ritchie Mullins.
In addition, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Mullins and two sisters, Irene Salyers and Christine McAmis.
He was a truck driver with North American Van Lines, and was a Vietnam veteran serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Oliver Mullins of Ashland; a son, John Mullins of Ohio; a daughter, Lori Mullins of Ohio; two stepdaughters, Jodi Allen of Worthington, Ky., and Tonya VanHoose of Catlettsburg, Ky.; two brothers, Bill Mullins of Florida and Bert Mullins of Ohio; five sisters, Maxine Sturgill, Phyllis Diamond, Allene Gilliam, Joyce Smith and Genny Wright, all of Ashland; and two grandchildren, Blake and Audrey VanHoose.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Steen Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Childers (1960-2008)
Earl Brian Childers, age 48, of Russell, Ky., died March 12, 2008 in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
He was born Jan. 4, 1960, in Ashland, Ky., a son of Tyrus Raymond and Doris Frazier Childers of Flatwoods, Ky.
He was a pipefitter and a member of Pipefitter & Steamfitter Local No. 452.
Additional survivors include his wife, Kristi Rice Childers of Russell; four sons, Korey Childers, Kasey Childers, E.B. Childers, and Trace Childers, all of Russell; a stepson, Tony Bacon of Russell; a brother, Eric (Amy) Childers of Belleville, Mich.; and three sisters, Karen (Rodney) Robinette of Ashland, Kim (Bruce) Stapleton of Longboat Key, Fla., and Mary Foster of Wheelersburg, Ohio.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Pastor Ed McKinney. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Nancy Sue Johnson (1937-2008)
Nancy Sue Johnson, 70, of Flatwoods, passed away very peacefully Wednesday, March 12, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
She was surrounded by her loving family and many close friends. Nancy was born on May 8, 1937, to the late Lonnie and Mary McKenzie Lemaster.
She was the wife of the late John David Johnson and also preceded in death by three brothers, Hubert, Bob and Don Lemaster; and two sisters, Dorothy Armstrong and Magdaline Tackett.
Nancy was a homemaker and her passion was loving, nurturing and spoiling children.
She was of the Nazarene faith and loved God.
Surviving are her four children, Sherry Callihan, Rick Johnson (Mary), Diane England Dechant (Larry) and Johnny Johnson, all of Flatwoods; four grandchildren, Dana Shaftner (Ben) of Greenup, Ky., Stacey Collins (Paul), Erin England (Ben Starkey) of Flatwoods and Johnny L. Johnson of Ashland, Ky.; three great-grandchildren, Bryan and Corey Devaney of Flatwoods and Morgan Shaftner of Greenup; two stepdaughters, Joyce Kerns (Emery) of Ironton, Ohio, and Francis Sue Greene (Hassell) of Westwood, Ky.; six stepgrandchildren, Kathy Smith (Tommy), Chuck and Bobby Ritchie, all of Westwood, Saprinta Patrick, Tammy Noble and Josh Kerns of Ironton; six stepgreat-grandchildren, Randy Suttles, Zachary Smith, Brianna Smith, Cheyenne Ritchie, Cameron Ritchie and Jasmine Rae Ritchie of Westwood, Tommie Patrick of Ironton and Allie Salyers of Ironton.
Nancy is also survived by a brother, Delbert Lemaster of Clearfield, Ky.
She will be loved and missed by all.
Service will be tonight, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with J.R. Gullett officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Franklin Dixon
Franklin Dixon, 73, died Thursday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
His wife, Shirley Dixon, survives.

Mark Allen Mayo, 29, died Monday in Pensacola Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
He was born Jan. 9, 1979.

Ernest “Nard” Pergrem (1926-2008)
Ernest Bernard “Nard” Pergrem, formerly of Ashland, died Wednesday in Summerfield, Fla., where he resided with his wife, Marcia.
He was born Oct. 31, 1926, in Ashland.
A memorial service will be at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Monday.

Robert Kelley
Robert G. Kelley, 61, of West Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Ashland, died Wednesday in JFK Medical Center.

Loran Davis (1920-2008)
Loran Davis, 87, of Ashland, formerly of Prestonsburg, died Tuesday in Woodland Oaks in Ashland.
He was born June 3, 1920.
His wife, Shirley Akers, preceded him in death.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Carter Funeral Home in Prestonsburg. Burial will be in Richmond Memorial Cemetery.

Clyde Johnson (1922-2008)
Clyde Lawrence Johnson, 85, of Grayson, died Wednesday at his residence.
He was born Aug. 16, 1922, in Grayson.
His wife, Wilma Jean Burton Johnson, died in 1995.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Richard Lee Caudill, 49, of Lexington, formerly of Sitka, died Wednesday in Lexington.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Carol May Caudill.

She was born Oct. 30, 1939, in Elliott County.

Charles E. Lute, 84, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of South Point, died Sunday in Mayfair Manor Nursing Home in Lexington.
He was born June 19, 1923, in Williamson, W.Va.
His wife, Goldie Toney Lute, preceded him in death.
