Riad Reslan Abul-Khoudoud - 1927-2008
Riad Reslan Abul-Khoudoud, 81, of Ashland, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in American University Hospital in Beirut, Lebanon.
He was born January 1927 in Beirut, Lebanon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nujud Abul-Khoudoud, in 1993.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Mohamad Abul-Khoudoud and Omran Abul-Khoudoud, both of Ashland, Hassan Abul-Khoudoud of North Dakota and Khaled Abul-Khoudoud of Lebanon; two daughters and their husbands, Nawal Abul-Khoudoud and Adiba Attar, both of Lebanon; 15 grandchildren who live in different regions of the world; and a brother and sister.
He was buried in Beirut on March 6, 2008.
May he rest in peace.
Gary Grizzle - 1948-2008
Gary Charles Grizzle, 59, of Ashland, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at his residence.
The Ashland, Ky., native was born Oct. 5, 1948, the son of Charles Russell Grizzle of Ashland and the late Doris Jean Diamond Grizzle.
He was the husband of Lou Ann Grizzle who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He also received the National Defense Service Medal; the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device; the Vietnam Service Medal (four campaigns); and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm. He was a life member of American Legion Post 76 of Ashland and American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, W.Va.
Survivors, in addition to his father and wife, include a daughter, Renee Michele Grizzle of Richmond, Ky.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dana Lee and Linda Grizzle of Ashland; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathi and Mike Mooney of Ashland, Donna Marie and Don Salyers of Boyd County and Julia and Harry Mulvaney of Ashland.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Jim Mitchell. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be after noon Monday at the funeral home.

Levi Keathley - 1919-2008
Levi Keathley, 88, of Ashland, died March 7, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland after an extended illness.
He was born on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1919, in Harold, Ky., the son of the late Bert and Lizzie White Keathley. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Forsyth Keathley.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church; Poage Lodge 325, F&AM, and El Hasa Shrine. He was a train dispatcher for the C&O Railroad and a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the 13th Army Air Force in the Southwest Pacific in the Philippines.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betsy Keathley McClain.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son and daughter-in-law, Harry F. and Brenda H. Keathley of Catlettsburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Walker and Thursa Keathley of Ashland; two granddaughters and their spouses, Valerie Jean Keathley of Lexington and Melissa and Tony Downey of Ashland; and three great-granddaughters.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel by the Rev. William Moore. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be after noon Monday at the funeral home.

Patricia Hall - 1949-2008
Patricia Ann Perry Hall, 58, of Westwood, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 7, 2008, following an extended illness.
She was born in Flemingsburg and was of the Baptist faith. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife of 42 years to her loving husband, Larry Thomas Hall.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Breeze Perry; an uncle, Thurman Perry; and her mother, Grace Perry.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Kimberly Lyons (Keith Justice) of Ashland and April Dawn Hall of Westwood; a son, Larry Hall II (Shelly Hall) of Ashland; grandchildren Haley and Michael Lyons, J.T. Ray and Logan Hall; and an aunt, Wilma Ellington (Ted).
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by Brother Rob Barker. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Donald Miller - 1927-2008
Donald R. “Red” Miller, 80, of Rush, widower of Margaret Ann Kirk Miller, passed away Friday evening, March 7, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center.
Donald was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Lawrence County, Ky., a son of the late C.B. and Georgie Queen Miller.
Donald proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired electrician in the processing department of Armco Steel. Don was quite a craftsman. In his spare time he loved to antique, do woodworking, fish, tell stories and spend time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Ann Kirk Miller, and a sister, Alberta Maddox.
He is survived by his four children, Donald Miller and his wife, Teresa, of Rush, Debbie Barber and her husband, Bill, of Rush, Brenda Mae Ison and her husband, Jim, of Winchester and David Ison and his wife, Judy, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Basil Dale Miller of Ashland; two sisters, Roma Lockwood of Ashland and Bernice Holbrook of Denton; seven grandchildren, Donald E. Miller, Jennifer Johnson, Jamie Morrison, Linda Tolson, Vanessa Fathergill, D.J. Ison and Chrissy Musk; nine great-grandchildren; numerous extended family and friends; and all who knew him by Mr. Daddy Don.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home. Military services will be by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Fern Tyler - 1913-2008
Fern Henrietta Tyler, 94, of Ashland, went to be with her Lord on Saturday morning, March 8, 2008, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility.
Fern was born Oct. 6, 1913, in Lexington, a daughter of the late Henry Bascomb and Hattie Francis Bellomy Johnson. She worked for the USO in San Diego, Calif., during the war. She was of the Nazarene faith.
In addition to her parents, Fern was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Rae Antle; a son, Robert Francis Van Hoose; two brothers, Lowell Johnson and Vernon Johnson; and a sister, Janet Johnson.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene A. Tyler of Ashland; a son, John Van Hoose and his wife, Wilma, of Ashland; a brother, Robert Johnson of Ashland, Ore.; a sister, Carolyn Cochran of Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren, Dr. Walton Van Hoose of Hernando, Fla., Deborah Lynn Ross of Destin, Fla., Mark Van Hoose of Scottown, Ohio, Randy Richardson of Oklahoma, Sandy Shoppe of Oklahoma and Carolyn Fae of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; seven great-grandchildren, Kelly Desmond of Hernando, Lisha Lacharite of North Carolina, James Van Hoose of Huntington, James Cameron Ross of Destin, Jane Ross Phillips of Tallahassee, Fla., Christopher Ross of Destin and Shawn Van Hoose of Ashland; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum by the Rev. Ike Nicholson. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood.
Lee Smith Jr. - 1947- 008
Lee M. Smith Jr. of Catletts Creek Road, Catlettsburg, rests peacefully in the arms of our Savior following his passing Friday afternoon, March 7, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Smith was 60 years of age, born Sept. 27, 1947, at Oneida, a son of the late Lee M. and Geneva Clemmins Smith Sr. Lee served our great nation honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and received multiple Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart for actions in the line of duty. He was employed by CSX Transportation as an electrician and was a member of Catlettsburg Church of God. He was an avid outdoorsman and woodworker.
Sadly, Lee leaves behind his loving wife of 33 years, Kathy Mullins Smith; a daughter, Myriah Smith of Georgetown; three sons, Jason Smith and his wife, Rachel, Jeremy Smith and Shawn Smith and his wife, Lisa, all of Ashland; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers, Harold Smith of Cedar Hill, Texas, Nasby Smith of Bullard, Texas, Jim Smith of Carrollton and Cecil Smith of Scottsburg, Ind.; and four sisters, Margie Bowman of Newton, N.C., Virginia McNanee of Troupe, Texas, Grace Squiers of Carrollton and Katie Matson of Campbellsburg.
Preceding him in death was a brother Theowill Smith.
Those wishing to call on the Smith family may do so between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Final rest will follow a heartfelt committal delivered by Pastor Steve Mays at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Otisco, Ind., on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Smith will receive full military honors at the gravesite.

Henry Barney - 1935–2008
Henry Barney, 72, of Flatwoods, went on to be with the Lord on Friday, March 7, 2008, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Barney was born Dec. 16, 1935, in Greenup County, a son of the late Elder Charlie and Josephine (Ratliff) Barney.
He was of the Christian faith and attended the Old Regular Baptist Church.
He was retired from CSX Railroad after 42 years of service in Toledo, Ohio, and was a member of the United Transportation Union. He was a lance corporal in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1955 to 1958 and stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Camp Lejeune, N.C., and Parris Island, S.C.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman who traveled throughout the United States and Canada. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, attending church and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his brother, Harlan Barney of Ashland; and a sister Evelene Adkins (the Rev. Homer Adkins) of Lloyd.
Mr. Barney was preceded in death by his special companion of 13 years, Pauline Webb; four brothers, Walter, Taylor, Cleo and Charles; and two sisters, Mazilla and Eunice.
He was known as a beloved uncle and great-uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup by Elders Gary Blevins, Jeff Allen and Ira Adkins Jr. Burial will be in Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Military graveside rites will be by South Shore American Legion.

Easter Woods - 1910-2008
Easter Roberts Woods, 97, of Washington Court House, Ohio, died Friday, March 7, 2008, in Washington Court House.
She was born March 19, 1910, at Camdus in Lawrence County, Ky., to Willis and Martha Webb Roberts. She was the widow of the late Lawrence Paul Woods, who passed away in 1969.
She attended Morehead Teachers College and taught in a one-room school in Lawrence County.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson and a great-grandson and was the last of a family of seven siblings.
She is survived by four children, Mary Bumgarner of Washington Court House, James L. Woods Sr. of Mount Sterling, Ohio, Donald P. Woods of Upper Arlington, Ohio, and Paul W. (Debbie) Woods of Jacksonville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at noon Tuesday at Madison Mills United Methodist Church in Madison Mills, Ohio. Burial will be in New Holland Cemetery.
Friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Madison Mills United Methodist Church, 9100 Madison Road N.E., Washington Court House, OH 43160.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
Lucille LeGrand - 1915-2008
Lucille A. LeGrand, 93, of South Portsmouth, died Friday in Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice.
She was born Jan. 23, 1915, in St. Paul.
Her husband, Walter Boyd LeGrand, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Green Cemetery in St. Paul.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Charles Hudson, 91, of Prestonsburg, formerly of Logan, W.Va., died Saturday at the home of his daughter.

Clinton Lunsford - 1943-2008
Clinton Lunsford, 64, of Morehead died Saturday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born March 18, 1943.
His wife, Jackie Shumate Lunsford, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Manning Chapel Cemetery in Carter County.

Richard Flannigan, 56, of Vanceburg died Friday at his home.

Joseph Fields - 1962-2008
Joseph McKinley Fields, 45, of Coal Grove, formerly of Blaine, died Friday at his home.
He was born April 23, 1962, in Williamson, W.Va.
His wife, Deborah Greenlee Fields, survives.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Unity Baptist Church in Blaine. Burial will be in Fields Cemetery in Blaine.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Monday at the church.
