AKRON, Ohio —
The Russell-Flatwoods Junior League Softball All-Stars’ record evened up at 1-1 in Central Region Tournament pool play on Sunday.
They fell to host team Elyria Wast, 13-2.
Russell managed just one hit — a two-run home run over the center field fence by Sara Hieneman. The team also drew two walks.
Six of Elyria’s players enjoyed a multiple-hit game, with Sammie Stephan leading the way. She tallied two doubles, contributing to the team’s 16 total hits.
Elyria also took advantage of six Russell errors as pitcher Lauren Shaw picked up the win.
Said coach Rod Hieneman: “We came out very flat. We have a gritty team and we have fought back before in situations like this. (Manager) Kendra Holmes, (assistant coach) Todd Hartman and I feel these girls can come back and finish strong in this tournament.”
Russell-Flatwoods takes on Illinois today at 10:30 a.m. followed by a meeting with Michigan at 3 to complete pool play.
