PIKEVILLE — It took two late scores but Fairview moved its regular- season winning streak to 27 games.

Armonde Yetts rushed for 280 yards and two touchdowns to lead Fairview past Pike County Central 44-37.

After losing running back Isaiah King for what could be the season, Fairview coach Nathan McPeek said Yetts, and the rest of the Eagles’ running backs, picked up the slack.

“He was just a man tonight,” McPeek said. “He picked up the slack tonight. We may not have (King) the rest of the year and all those guys picked up the slack when we needed it.”

Kurtlen Brown had 113 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown, while Tanner Dolen had 70 yards and one touchdown.

But Dolen and Yetts made key defensive plays late in the game.

After Brown’s 29-yard touchdown run tied the game 37-37, Dolen picked off Pike Central quarterback Mac Justice.

This set up the go-ahead score by Yetts, who ran 46 yards to put the Eagles up 44-37.

With 2:30 left, Pike Central started to drive, but Brown then intercepted Justice to clinch the 27th straight regular season win for the Eagles.

“I think we won this game because we’re used to winning,” McPeek said. “The kids can play better, but we won because we had a lot of key plays late.”
