Belfry blows by Lawrence

BELFRY — Belfry proved to be too much for Lawrence County once again. This time, though, the Pirates ended the Bulldogs’ season.

Belfry nearly duplicated the regular season outcome against the Dawgs, winning 48-6 on Friday night at home in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs. The Pirates beat Lawrence County 41-6 on Oct. 12 in Louisa.

Belfry (10-2) advances to take on the winner of Breathitt County-Pike County Central in the regional championship next week.

Lawrence County was led by Ricky Goble, who amassed 110 rushing yards. The team accumulated 218 yards on the ground.

Goble surpassed 1,000 yards, giving the Bulldogs two 1,000-yard rushers for the season. A.J. Cyrus also eclipsed the mark this year. Lawrence County finished with just fewer than 3,500 rushing yards on the year.

The Bulldogs (5-7) defeated Morgan County in the opening round last week.
