Boyd County girls recover, beat Fairland

SUMMIT — Boyd County’s girls basketball team rebounded from a tough season-opening loss against Russell with a 61-51 defeat of Fairland (Ohio) on Saturday night at Boyd County Middle School.

The Lady Lions (1-1) held Michigan-bound Terra Stapleton to 15 points, while the rest of the Lady Dragons were limited to single digits.

Taylor Wheeler led Boyd County in scoring with 20 points. Logan Fraley added 16 points, including four 3-pointers.

Destiny Goins supplied 11 points off the bench.

Boyd County owned the foul shot advantage, making 25 of 36 from the charity stripe. Fairland was just 5 of 8 from the foul line.

Boyd County travels to Spring Valley (W.Va.) on Monday.
