Staff report
The Independent

FAIRLAND — Evan Yongue fired a complete game as Ashland played small ball to eke out a 5-3 win over Fairland (Ohio) on Monday night.

Yongue tallied 10 strikeouts, a walk and hit three batters in seven innings. Ashland’s defense, which committed just one error, turned two double plays to assist the right-handed pitcher.

Ashland (14-7) plated three runs in the top of the third — one on a Logan Salow RBI groundout, and two on a Cade O’Bryan RBI single that was followed by an error.

O’Bryan and Cody Conley each hit a sacrifice fly to account for the other two Tomcat runs.

Ashland travels to Russell tonight.
