Boyd crushes Lawrence in softball

LOUISA — Lora Thompson and Taylor Wheeler continued to swing hot bats, and the rest of the team didn’t disappoint at the plate, either.

Thompson drilled two home runs to up her tally to four long balls on the season. Wheeler also went deep. Alex Meade notched her first career home run.

In all, Boyd County racked up 20 hits in its 15-3 defeat of Lawrence County on Thursday night.

Wheeler was 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs.

Thompson went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. She also pitched the final three innings in relief of Hannah Irvine, giving up just one hit and striking out six.

Houston Reeves tallied three hits and four runs.

Meade was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Joining her with two hits were Bri Crooks, Destiny Goins and Aryanna Cannoy.

Allie Marcum was 3-for-3 to lead Lawrence County.

The Lady Dawgs (9-16) are at Paintsville on Monday.

Boyd County (15-10) goes to West Carter on Monday.
