CANNONSBURG —  Severe storms forced a postponement of Tuesday night’s 64th District matchup between Ashland and Boyd County at Addington Field.

Play will resume on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the top of the fifth inning with Boyd County leading 4-2.

Umpires signaled a lightning delay at 7:45 p.m. with Ashland batting in the fifth. Approximately 30 minutes later, the game was postponed.

Ashland (7-6) has a runner on second with no one out after Logan Salow singled and stole second base.

Dylan Grimm started on the mound for Boyd County. The sophomore right-hander had allowed two runs on four hits when play was stopped.

Jared Slone scored on a wild pitch in the first inning and Evan Yongue came home on an Evan Cox single in the second to account for Ashland’s two runs.

Boyd County (9-7) got its runs thanks to a sacrifice fly by Grimm, RBI singles by Jacob Barnwell and Billy McCoy, and a wild pitch.

Cox had thrown all four innings for Ashland. Only one of his four runs given up was earned, as the Tomcats had committed four errors.

Ashland already has a game scheduled with Lawrence County on Saturday at 1 p.m. According to coach Jeff Wilcox, the start time of that home game will likely be pushed to later in the afternoon. Also, he said, it depends on if weather allows tonight’s home game with Fairview to be played.

Boyd County had no game slated for Saturday because of prom.
