PAINTSVILLE — The Russell Red Devils are swinging the bats about as well as a team can right now.

They tallied 18 hits over 12 total innings of play on Saturday as they beat Pike County Central, 10-0, in five innings but lost to Johnson Central. 8-6, at Johnson Central High School.

Russell (12-11) saw a 6-0 lead fizzle away against the Golden Eagles, who improved to 15-8-1.

Bobby May, J.D. Pridemore and Jacob McKee were each 2-for-4 from the plate. Tate Trimble added a base knock and two RBIs.

Johnson Central used small ball to chip away and ultimately take over the lead by the sixth inning.

Alex Jones, a lefty, threw a five-inning two-hitter against Pike County Central. He struck out five and walked none.

Bryant Cathey went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and scored twice. Heath Hensley and McKee contributed two hits and an RBI apiece. Eighth-grader Austin Brinkman slammed a two-run double off the left-field fence.
