Raceland wins first district title since 2008

RACELAND — For the first time since 2008, Raceland has claimed a district title.

The Rams finished perfect in Class A, District 7 after defeating Paintsville 32-10 on Friday at Paintsville.

Raceland took an early 13-0 lead in the first quarter all in the span of a minute.

Kane Snyder had a 4-yard rushing touchdown at the 9:17 mark. After forcing a three-and-out, Connor Messer returned the ensuing punt 71 yards at the 8:41 mark.

Paintsville though would get on the board just 11 seconds later with an Alex Spencer 64-yard kickoff return.

After the two-minute burst of offense, the Raceland defense locked down Paintsville, allowing just a field goal in the fourth quarter.

Against the Rams’ defense, the Tigers just managed 126 yards of total offense. In comparison, Raceland had 446 total yards, including 341 on the ground.

Rams quarterback Adam Elkins had 105 yards on 11 of 14 passing and one interception.

Snyder found the end zone again, from one-yard out, while Daylin Beach had two touchdowns, scoring from the 26- and one-yard line.

Raceland (7-2) finishes up the season hosting Ironton while Paintsville (6-3) will host West Carter.
