Russell goes 1-3 in Danville

DANVILLE — Russell completed its four-game stint in the Danville Spring Break Invitational with a 1-3 record.

Highlights came in the form of solid plate presence from J.D. Pridemore and top-notch pitching by Justin Fraley and Alex Jones.

Fraley tossed six innings and gave up three early runs as Russell fell to Lincoln County, 3-1, on Monday. Heath Hensley went 2-for-3 in that game but the Red Devils stranded six baserunners.

Russell’s only win was an 8-1 defeat of Western Hills. Lefty Alex Jones pitched six innings and allowed just one hit. He fanned six batters. Bobby May was 3-for-4 and Pridemore was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Tate Trimble contributed with a two-run double in the first inning.

The Red Devils (5-6) went on to lose to Wayne County, 9-3, on Tuesday and to Danville, 12-5, on Wednesday. In each game, the opponent exploded for a huge inning — Wayne County cashed in on a six-run second while Danville enjoyed a nine-run first.

Pridemore provided two hits and a walk against Wayne County.

Troy Huffine was 2-for-4 in the loss to Danville. Garion Robinson and Austin Brinkman each executed run-scoring squeeze bunts in that contest.

Russell will next compete in the All “A” Classic as it travels to Menifee County on Monday.
