61st, 62nd soccer title matches determined

LLOYD — Both the 61st and 62nd District Tournaments concluded their semifinal rounds on Tuesday night.

West Carter will face East Carter in the 62nd District boys championship game today at 6 p.m. at Greenup County High School.

The Comets knocked off defending 16th Region champion Greenup County, 3-2, on Tuesday.

Greenup County’s girls edged West Carter, 3-2, to move on to a meeting with East Carter for the district crown. The Lady Musketeers and Lady Raiders play tonight at 8 at Greenup County.

In the 61st, Rowan County’s girls beat Bath County 6-0. Six different players scored as Montanna Minor led the way with a goal and two assists.

Cristi Peterson netted both goals of Fleming County’s 2-1 overtime defeat of Bath County.

Menifee County’s Erika Brewer tied it at 1-1 with 47 seconds left in regulation.

Peterson connected on a free kick from 20 yards out in the overtime period.

On Thursday, with the boys beginning at 6 p.m., Fleming County and Rowan County will battle for both district titles at Botts Elementary School in Denniston.
