Boyd rolls past Greenup

For The Independent

LLOYD — The Boyd County Lions could call themselves artists because they lived in the paint on Tuesday night.

In a game that had 26 fouls called and 57 free throws attempted, the Lions were able to outmuscle Greenup County, 72-56, at the Greenhouse.

Greenup County (1-12) encountered early foul trouble with several inside players, and it opened up the lane for Boyd County to rack up numerous layups and easy shots in the paint.

The Lions (10-7) finished with 36 points in the paint.

Brandon Lowe and Austin Hunt led a balanced effort with 14 points apiece for the Lions. Grayson Griffith and Marcus Jarrell each contributed 10 points.

After a close first quarter, Boyd County enjoyed a 13-0 run in the second quarter that included six points by Hunt and a technical foul called on Musketeers coach Harold Tackett.

Boyd County took a 36-26 lead into intermission.

With the help of technical free throws of its own, Greenup County dwindled the Lions’ lead down to three points in the third quarter.

The Musketeers never got closer, though, mainly because of turnovers. They committed a total of 22 miscues.

Justin Bond notched a game-high 15 points for the Musketeers, who also got a nice performance by Jair Jackson. He had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Robbie Dillon chipped in 10 points.

Each team is back in action on Friday. Greenup County hosts Lewis County while Boyd County travels to Fleming County.
