Raceland gets past Russell

ASHLAND — Raceland shut out Russell, 3-0, to advance to the 16th Region All “A” championship game at Bath County High School.

The Rams will take on the winner of Tuesday’s late game between Fairview and Bath County for the title on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Bath County.

Raceland (7-5) beat West Carter, 9-5, on Monday to move on to the semifinals.

Russell (6-6) slammed Menifee County, 16-0, on Monday on the strength of a five-inning no-hitter by senior Caleb Spainhower.

Spainhower tallied 11 strikeouts, walked one and hit a batter as he mowed through the Wildcats.

Russell was led by Garon Robinson and Heath Hensley on offense — Robinson was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI while Hensley was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and three walks.

Also on Tuesday, Russell’s softball team beat West Carter, 3-2, and Raceland defeated Menifee County, 5-0, to set up the All “A” championship game. The matchup between 63rd District rivals will be played on Friday at 6 p.m. at West Carter.
