Conner QB commits to Cats

The Independent

HEBRON — Drew Barker, a rising senior at Conner High School and generally considered the state's top football player in 2013, has committed to Kentucky during a ceremony at the Conner High School auditorium on Friday.

The strong-armed quarterback chose Kentucky over Southeastern Conference rival South Carolina, also held offers from Illinois, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi, North Carolina, Purdue, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, among others.

Barker completed 140 of 225 passes for 2,067 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior. He threw only seven interceptions and led Conner to an appearance in the Class 5A State Playoffs and a 9-3 overall record.

Rated a four-star recruit by Rivals, Barker is a dual-threat quarterback. He has passed for 3,104 yards and 26 touchdowns, and rushed for 2,971 yards and 41 TDs.

Barker said last week that he hoped to graduate in December and enroll in college in January.

He has been invited to take part in the Rivals 5-Star Challenge at Soldier Field in Chicago on June 7-9. The top prospects in the nation will compete at that camp.
