High School Roundup: Royals have first streak since 2009

ASHLAND — Rose Hill’s boys have their first two-game winning streak since February 2009.

The Royals beat Riverside Christian, 88-53, in the David Garnes Memorial Classic on Saturday night to follow up Friday’s defeat of Piarist.

They had just two wins over the last two seasons combined.

Senior Cameron Thomas recorded a career-best 32 points to lead the Royals (2-7). Freshman guard Nathan Hamilton tallied 17.

Rose Hill racked up 73 team rebounds, which ranks sixth all-time in Kentucky for a team in a single game.

NASHVILLE Hoping for a fourth-quarter rally, the Lady Lions mustered very little offense in the final period as Union City, Tenn., remained unbeaten for the season.

Taylor Wheeler, Destiny Goins and Logan Fraley each had nine points for Boyd County (6-3). All of Fraley’s points came in the third quarter. Boyd County scored one point in the fourth.
