East wins 14th in a row, 62-49

WEST LIBERTY — East Carter’s girls outscored Powell County 24-13 in the fourth quarter to post a 62-49 victory in the Morgan County Shootout on Saturday.

The Lady Raiders have won 14 consecutive games and 21 of 22 overall this season.

Point guard Kristen Mayo led East Carter in scoring with 20 points, followed by Megan Stickler (12) and Haley Hall (10).

Mayo and Hall each connected for two of the team’s six 3-pointers. The Lady Raiders play at Lewis County on Monday.

Powell County (15-7) was led by Keely Rogers with 21 points.

ASHLAND Senior Kirsten Wehmeier’s double-double helped lead Rose Hill Christian past Portsmouth East.

Wehmeier finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Royals picked up their fourth win of the season, surpassing last season’s total.

Myriah Porter supplied 13 points and eight assists in the winning cause, while Paige Brammer added 10 points.

Rose Hill got off to a strong start with 17 first-quarter points.

SOUTH POINT, Ohio South Point’s Brandon Boggs made the winning basket as time expired to withstand a Boyd County comeback.

The Lions trailed by 14 points after three quarters before rallying for 28 points in the final period.

Conner Gauze scored 18, Tristan Burgess 11 and Bobby Anderson 19 for Boyd County.

South Point’s Brandon Barnes finished with a game-high 20 points.

OLIVE HILL  Ben Jordan, a 6-foot-8 freshman, collected 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots to pace West Carter past Fairview.

Jacob Layne scored 13 points for the Comets (6-11), who pulled away in the second half.

Fairview (3-15) got 17 points from sophomore guard Antwan Washington.

HUNTINGTON Boyd County withstood a Fairland rally to win Friday’s nightcap game of the Huntington Invitational at Big Sandy Superstore Arena.

Boyd County led by 10 points inside the two-minute mark, but Fairland’s Evan Maddox sank three free throws and then made a 3-pointer to slice the Lions’ lead to 63-62 with 19 seconds remaining.

The Dragons had an opportunity to take the lead following a Boyd County turnover, but missed a shot under the basket. The Lions’ Conner Gauze grabbed the rebound and made one of two free throws.

Maddox, who scored a game-high 20 points, fired up a 60-footer that bounced off the rim at the buzzer.

Gauze and Tristan Burgess each scored 13 points for Boyd County. Bobby Anderson added 11.
