Kittens edged in overtime

Elliott, Morgan post sweeps in All 'A' Classic

PROCTORVILLE, Ohio — The Kittens once again went cold against Fairland.

Ashland battled the Lady Dragons to force overtime, but fell short, 45-44, on Saturday at Fairland High School.

Just like in last season’s meeting, Ashland (11-4) had a difficult time sinking shots. The Kittens were 4 of 24 from 3-point range. All four long balls were by Alex Young, who notched a game-high 16 points.

Taylor Perry hit a baseline jumper to give Fairland a 45-44 lead with 20 seconds left.

Ashland’s Alexis Robinson missed an 8-footer, and the ball went out of bounds off the Kittens with less than a second remaining, allowing Fairland to hold on.

Chandler Fulks led the Lady Dragons (10-3) with 14 points. Terra Stapleton added 10.

Shelby Gransbery tallied 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Kittens.

Ashland defeated West Carter, 60-33, on Friday night. Young nailed six 3s in that one. The Kittens head to Rowan County to take on Archbishop McNicholas on Monday.

The Lady Cats (9-8) survived the Lady Rams with game-sealing free throws by Ashton Woodard. Woodard notched 27 points, including a 14-of-18 mark from the foul line.

Menifee County made a basket with 20 seconds left to give the Lady Cats a 61-60 lead before Raceland missed two close-range chances. Woodard was then fouled, setting up the final two freebies. The Lady Rams couldn’t get a 3-pointer off to attempt to tie the contest.

Savannah Mackie led Raceland (7-8) with 21 points. Lacee Penix had 14 points. Savannah Cotton had eight points and 10 rebounds.
