Junior Sixers off to good start at state

PADUCAH — Ashland Post 76 Junior got off to nice start in the state tournament on Thursday.

The Junior Sixers downed a Lexington-based team, 1-0, on the strength of Zach Harvey’s pitching and Drew O’Bryan’s clutch hitting.

Harvey needed just 76 pitches to toss a complete game shutout.

With two outs in the seventh inning, O’Bryan came through with a line-drive single to right field to score Bobby May, who had walked.

First baseman Heath Hensley and O’Bryan, at third, provided the defensive gems to highlight the Junior Sixers’ fine glovework.

Post 76 catcher Austin Wells also executed in a key defensive situation when he gunned down a runner at second base in the sixth to help end a Lexington threat. Harvey picked off a runner at first base in the seventh inning.

The Junior Sixers were in action again on Friday evening in Paducah.
