ROUNDUP: East outlasts Greenup in Ohio River Cities Classic

LLOYD — East Carter used a second-quarter surge to comfortably beat Greenup County, 54-42, in the Ohio River Cities Classic championship game on Saturday night at Greenup County High School.

Eighth-grader Haley Hall poured in a game-high 19 points to lead the Lady Raiders (8-4) just one night after another eighth-grader, Kristen Mayo, paced them to a victory over Johnson Central.

Destiny Jones netted 18 points to lead Greenup County (9-7), which had won six straight games prior to Saturday’s loss.

FORT MYERS, FLA. Boyd County’s girls went 2-1 in the Queen of the Palms Tournament over the weekend.

The Lady Lions lost to Coral Springs Charter, 65-48, before beating Community School of Naples, 53-47. Their most impressive performance came against Dunbar, the state’s defending 4A state champions, on Saturday.

Taylor Wheeler racked up 26 points after being held scoreless in the first quarter.

Logan Fraley enjoyed a 25-point performance against Naples.

Caitlin Coburn led the Lady Lions with 21 points against Coral Springs.

Boyd County improved to 9-3 on the season.

PARIS Rowan County outlasted Russell in overtime on Saturday in the Bourbon County Holiday Classic.

The Lady Devils finished 1-3 in the tournament. Hope Parsley’s 32 points against Central Hardin served as a highlight and it helped get her selected to the All-Tournament team.

LLOYD After losing three games in the Republic Bank Classic last week, East Carter is getting inseason tournament redemption.

East Carter defeated Johnson Central 68-50 on Friday to advance to the championship game of the Ohio River Cities Classic on at Greenup County High School.

Eighth-grader Kristen Mayo led the Lady Raiders with a game-high 19 points. Bryana Greenhill added 12.

Johnson Central was led by senior Amber Shepherd, who had 19 points including both of the Lady Eagles’ 3-pointers.
