High School Roundup: Late-charging Boyd falls to Mason

MAYSVILLE — Boyd County outscored Mason County 21-14 in the fourth quarter, but the Royals had already padded a comfortable lead. They held on for a 79-70 victory to open the season on Tuesday.

Mason County’s Lucas Greenhill led all scorers with 29 points. Shawn Johnson added 22 points and eight rebounds.

Grayson Griffith scored 19 points for Boyd County (0-1), 17 of which came in the second half.

Tristan Burgess contributed 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Lions. Bobby Anderson had 11 points.

GRAYSON A staggering 63 total fouls were called as Lawrence County cruised past East Carter.

The Bulldogs (1-0) and Raiders (0-1) were a combined 58 of 93 on foul shots.

Brandon Richardson poured in 28 points for Lawrence County. Timmy Dalton added 23.

Connor Greene scored 23 points for East Carter. Donald Damron tallied 13, Cole Brammer 11.

OLIVE HILL West Carter couldn’t overcome an offensively anemic third quarter in  its home loss to Sheldon Clark on Tuesday.

Junior Chase Parsley led the Cardinals (1-0) with 23 points.
