PREP ROUNDUP: Ashland puts walk in walk-off

ASHLAND — Pete Mullins worked a walk-off walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Casey Clark and push Ashland past Ironton, 2-1, on Monday.

Mullins started the game on the mound and threw six scoreless innings. He then switched places with catcher Cam Fritz, who earned the win in relief.

Clark went 2-for-2 and walked twice for the Tomcats (9-6), who won despite garnering five base knocks, all singles, all night.

Fairview 1

CANNONSBURG The Lions racked up nine runs in the second inning and eight more in the fourth to end Monday’s 64th District Tournament seeding contest early.

Evan Crum doubled twice and drove in three runs. Billy McCoy also went 2-for-2 with three RBIs for Boyd County (12-10).

Brock Damron went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Dylan Grimm was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Ethan Hicks and Jacob Barnwell each went 2-for-4. Zane Purscelley also drove in a run.

Grimm earned the win, working four innings and fanning eight Eagles.

Jonathan Ruggles was 2-for-2 for Fairview (3-11). Jesse Menshouse was the Eagles’ pitcher of record.

Boyd County improves to 2-0 in district seeding games. Fairview is 0-2.

Raceland 2

LLOYD J.T. Boggs slammed a home run and two doubles as Greenup County thumped Raceland on Monday night in 63rd District action at Greenup County High School.

Boggs went 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Tristan Downing contributed a pair of hits and two RBIs as well for the Musketeers (9-11), winners of five straight games.

Pitcher Jaxon Keeton picked up the win for Greenup County.

Alec Risner drove in both Raceland runs. The Rams dropped their record to 12-7.

The two do battle at Raceland tonight at 6.
