Russell outlasts West Carter

OLIVE HILL —  Russell outhit West Carter 13-2 on its way to defeating West Carter 12-6 on Friday night.

Freshman Jacob Mckee picked up the win in his first start for the Red Devils, going five innings, striking out six and giving up three unearned runs.

Bobby May went 2-for-4 for Russell and also had four RBIs while J. D. Pridemore added two hits, inlcuding a triple, two RBIs and scored three times.

Dylan Howard had two hits and two RBIs including a triple, and Tate Trimble also added two hits for Russell (2-2).

The Red Devils play again today when they travel to take on Sheldon Clark.

WESTWOOD Fairview got a strong pitching performance from Cody Sammons to defeat Tolsia, W.Va. in the Eagles ‘season opener on Friday.

Sammons went four innings and had seven strikeouts. He gave up only one earned run.

Kyle Stormes threw the last inning, striking out two to end the game.

Senior Brandon McDaniel went 3-for-3 with a triple and two singles to lead the Eagles at the plate.

Sophomore Caleb McKnight also went 2-for-3 for the Eagles.

Fairview outhit Tolsia 10-3.
