Ohio River Classic: Lady Raiders notch 10th win

Lawrence, Russell, Henry Co. advance to Ohio River semis

RACELAND — East Carter’s girls fought off Bracken County, 67-61, in a hard-fought opening game of the Ohio River Classic at Raceland-Worthington High School on Thursday.

Junior Kelsey Stumbo amassed 17 points, nine rebounds and four blocks to lead the Lady Raiders, who are now 10-1. They will meet Lawrence County today at 3:30 p.m. in the semifinal round.

Stumbo scored 10 of those points in the fourth quarter.

Kristen Mayo tallied 16 points and Bryana Greenhill 13 for East Carter.

Bracken County (4-2) got a game-best 21 points from sophomore Bailey Cummins. The Lady Bears compete in the consolation round today at noon.

RACELAND Savannah Cyrus poured in 24 points, sinking eight 2-point buckets and 8 of 9 free throws, as Lawrence County cruised past Owen County on Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs had little trouble, darting out to an 11-2 advantage after one quarter.

Fellow junior Shelby Hay joined Cyrus in double figures, with 11.

Ashley Gravely led Owen County (0-9) with 15 points.

Lawrence County (3-5) takes on East Carter at 3:30 p.m. today.

Owen County plays at noon in the consolation bracket.

RACELAND Six players scored between eight and 12 points as the Lady Devils turned in a balanced effort to beat Villa Madonna on Thursday.

Lexi Berry splashed in a trio of 3-pointers to lead the way with 12 points. Hannah Carter put in 11, Ty Mitchell 10, Leslie Harrison 10, Shelby Huddleston eight and Ali May eight. In all, 11 Lady Devils scored.

Russell (8-2) faces Raceland or Henry County today at 4:45 in the semifinal round.

Alex Hengge had a game-high 14 points for Villa Madonna (4-4), which plays in the consolation round today at 1:45.
