BOWLING GREEN —
Fred Allen Meyer cleared the competition by a comfortable margin, and his team managed to do the same, as West Jessamine took individual and team honors in the KHSAA Boys State Golf Tournament at Bowling Green Country Club.
A West Jessamine senior and University of Kentucky commit, Meyer followed up his 4-under-par first round with a duplicate score on Wednesday. His overall tally of 136 (-8) placed him three strokes better than St. Xavier’s Brendon Doyle (-5). Tyler McDaniel (-3), of Clay County, was the only other golfer to shoot under par for the two-day event.
Local individual qualifiers Logan Jones (Ashland) and Ryan Gillum (Elliott County) each shot an 11-over-par 83.
Jones, a junior, finished tied for 35th place. He recorded a 75 on Tuesday.
Gillum, a sophomore, wound up in a 51st-place tie. He was 18-over for the tournament.
Region 12 winner Montgomery placed 11th overall. Senior Zach Smith led the Indians with a two-day total of 160 (+16).
St. Xavier finished second behind West Jessamine with a 597. West Jessamine turned in a 590.
