PORTSMOUTH, OHIO — Held at bay for four innings, Ashland’s offense exploded for two huge innings to wallop Portsmouth, 11-2, on Saturday afternoon.

Left-handed Tomcats pitcher Aaron Elam gave up a leadoff triple as Portsmouth plated two runs in the first before settling in for a complete game effort.

Elam struck out 13 batters, gave up three hits and walked just three over seven innings. He went 1-2-3, with the help of a pair of double plays, from the second through sixth innings.

Ashland (4-4) quickly changed the complexion of the game with a five-run fifth followed by a six-run sixth.

Cam Fritz went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Cade O’Bryan was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Cody Conley also drove in a pair on the strength of a 2-for-3 effort. Elam added two hits of his own and drove in a run.

The Tomcats travel to Ironton on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
