HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Boyd girls slam Central

All 'A' Classic also gets underway

SUMMIT — Boyd County’s girls used an balanced offensive explosion to rout Johnson Central, 80-56, on Saturday night at Boyd County Middle School.

Six Lady Lions cracked into double figures — Taylor Wheeler, Logan Fraley and Caitlin Coburn each poured in 15 points while Emily Stewart tallied 12, Hunter Reeves had 10 and Morgan Kenser chipped in 10.

Lauren Delong led Johnson Central (9-9) with 20 points. Amber Shepherd accumulated 15 points.

Boyd County improved to 12-4 on the season.

RUSSELL Bath County’s girls overcame a sluggish start to beat Russell in the opening round of the 16th Region All “A” Classic on Saturday at Russell High School.

The Lady Cats (9-5) head into the semifinal round as winners of eight of their last nine games. They will face West Carter at Raceland on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Taylor Rogers, a sophomore point guard, led the way for Bath County on Saturday with 23 points and six assists.

Sarah Price contributed nine points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.

Only two players — Madison Darnell and Lexi Berry — were able to attain double digits in scoring for Russell, with 10 apiece. The Lady Devils shot just 27 percent form the field in the second half after having a seven-point lead at halftime.

Brooke Callihan led the Lady Comets (5-9) with 14 points.

Savannah Mackie netted 15 points, including three 3-pointers, for Raceland (3-13).

RUSSELL The Red Devils pulled away in the second quarter and didn’t look back in the All “A” Classic opener on Saturday.

They will take on West Carter, which topped Raceland, at Raceland on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the semifinals.

Kyle Skaggs put in a game-high 23 points and Jacob Porter scored 16 for Russell (14-4), which is riding a six-game winning streak.

Johnny McGuire pitched in 11 points.

WEST LIBERTY Morgan County routed Rose Hill to move on to the All “A” Classic semifinals on Saturday.

The Cougars (13-4) will face the winner of Menifee County-Elliott County on Monday night at Raceland.

Jordan Perry tallied a game-high 16 points for Morgan County, while Samuel Aguirre scored 14 in the winning effort.

Travis Dudding led Rose Hill (1-12) with 10 points.

NAUGATUCK, W. Va. Ashland headed into Tug Valley for its fourth game in five days and came out victims of a 16-point loss.

The Tomcats (11-7) fell to the West Virginia Class 2A defending state champions.

They will next host Rose Hill on Tuesday.
