HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Fairview lives on edge

Staff report
The Independent

WESTWOOD — Fairview’s boys survived a heartracer on Saturday, sealing a 54-53 win over South Point with a pair of calm free throws by Antwan Washington.

The Eagles (2-9) trailed by as many as eight points in the fourth quarter. They were down by four when Blake Smith splashed in a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left. Fairview fouled South Point on the ensuing inbounds pass, and the Pointers missed the front-end bonus foul shot. Washington then drove into the middle of the lane and drew a foul.

South Point tried to fire the inbounds pass to Brandon Barnes with 3 seconds to go, but the Pointers’ top scorer (20 points on the night) was well defended by Smith.

Washington and Andrew Carroll each had 15 points.

Fairview is at Ashland on Tuesday.
