Ashland’s David Bush swept through Boys 18s singles and doubles tennis draws at the Springhurst New Year’s Classic.
The Tennis Club at Springhurst hosted the tournament, which attracted players from across the nine-state Southern Section.
Bush, seeded No. 2 in singles, won his 16-player division by defeating top-seeded Jonathan Edwards (Isle of Palms, S.C.) 6-3, 6-1 in the finals.
Bush reached the title match with a 7-5, 6-1 semifinal victory over Sairam Gudiseva of Germantown, Tenn. Prior to that, Bush dropped only three games in two matches against opponents from Nashville and Fort Mill, S.C.
In doubles, Bush teamed with Edwards to win three straight matches. The No. 1 seeds beat Alexander Jones and Justin Warren of Durham, N.C., 8-4 for the championship.
