High School Roundup: Mullins hits winning 2 for Russell

Staff report
The Independent

COAL GROVE — Russell’s boys won a barnburner on Saturday night at Coal Grove.

The Devils took down the Hornets with a Ramsey Mullins layup in the final seconds, winning 57-56.

Following a second-chance bucket by Coal Grove, Russell drew a foul and missed the front end of a one-and-one. Coal Grove then returned the favor, misfiring on a free throw. Trailing by a point, Russell corralled the rebound before Mullins drove the length of the floor for the winning two with 2 seconds to go.

Ethan Raby led Russell (4-8) with 17 points. Mullins finished with 10. Tanner Miller scored all seven of his points in the fourth quarter.

Coal Grove got 19 points from D.J. Miller.

Russell travels to Boyd County on Monday.
