ROUNDUP: Paintsville takes 2 over Lawrence, Greenup rolls

PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville picked up two back-to-back wins over Lawrence County on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Wednesday, Paintsville defeated Lawrence County 7-1 after a strong pitching performance from Matt Miller.

Miller held Lawrence County scorless through five innings, finally allowing one run in the sixth.

Paintsville rushed out to an early 5-0 lead scoring runs behind a Taylor Miller double and and a Brooks Pelphrey scarifice fly.

In the second game on Thursday, Paintsville roared past Lawrence County 9-4, capitalizing on the Bulldogs’ six errors.

After Lawrence County scored a run in the top of the first, Paintsville responed with four in the bottom ogf the inning.

Luke Daniels doubled to start the inning, then advanced to third on an outfield error.

Colby Burchett singled him home, and then scored after a Burchell double and another outfield error.

Lane Daniels then hit a 2-run homer to cap off the inning. Lawrence County couldn’t get a lead after the Tigers’ first inning explosion.

LLOYD Greenup County seemed to string Wheelersburg along, before finally finishing it off in the fifth.

The Musketeers scored seven runs in the fifth to complete a mercy run win against Wheelersburg on Thursday night.

Seth Boyle picked up the win on the mound, going for a complete game and striking out nine while holding the Pirates to just two hits.

Boyle also picked up an RBI in the game.

Zach Hutchinson and Jesse Hall each picked up two RBIs for Greenup County (10-7).
