Perry pushes Morgan to rally past Russell

RUSSELL — Russell’s boys basketball team battled back from a 10-point deficit to lead by five points early in the fourth quarter, but the Red Devils couldn’t hold on against visiting Morgan County. They fell 61-57 at Marving Meredith Gymnasium.

Jordan Perry scored 29 points, nine of which came in the fourth quarter, for Morgan County (4-2). Jarrod Burton added 13 points and Mikey Whisman had 10.

Russell (1-5) had two separate chances to tie it in the final 25 seconds, but neither of two 3-pointers found the basket.

Whisman sank one of two free throws to increase the Cougars’ lead to 61-57 and essentially seal the outcome.

Zach Tackett scored a team-high 24 points for Russell. Ramsey Mullins recorded 16 points. Ethan Raby made three 3-pointers en route to 11 points.

The Red Devils travel to Raceland on Thursday.
