STATE CROSS COUNTRY: Bowen 10th, Fairview girls fourth

LEXINGTON — Fairview’s girls had a top five finish overall and eighth-grader Brooklyn Bowen was 10th individually in Class A on Saturday in the State Cross Country Meet at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Led by Bowen’s strong run of 20:02.02, the Lady Eagles were able to secure fourth place in the state. Fairview was only one point behind third-place Villa Madonna, 183-184. St. Henry, a traditional powerhouse, won the title again.

Also part of Fairview’s fourth-place team were Maddy Rymer (39th), Dani Craig (47th), Kaitlin Bridges (56th), Audrey Sizemore (62nd), Julia Terrell (71st) and Brandi Mills (80th).

Elliott County was 19th and Raceland 20th in the team standings.

In the boys Class A race, Elliott County finished 23rd led by Cody Nickell, who was 44th.

Russell finished eighth in Class AA, led by two runners in the top 25 – Tanner Alexander (18th) and Matt Collins (25th). Sophomore Jon Renneker’s 15th-place finish led Ashland to 13th overall. Renneker was the top local runner in 17:04.88.

In the girls Class AA, Ashland was 22nd followed by Johnson Central and West Carter.

Russell wasn’t involved in the team competition, but Jennifer Miller and Jennifer Sloan were the top local finishers at 17th and 34th.
