Cross country: Ashland wins Meet of Champions
LEXINGTON —
Ashland took five cross country runners to the Meet of Champions on Saturday and came away as champion in the Class AA division.
Jon Renneker finished third and Brennan Kizziar sixth to lead the Tomcats.
Brooklyn Bowen led local high school girls by finishing fourth in Class A. Fairview’s girls finished third in the Class A division.
Ellliott County’s boys were second in Class A, led by top 10 finishes from Cody Nickell and Daniel Fraley.
The Meet of Champions is also the state championship meet equivalent for elementary and middle school cross country athletes and teams.
Fifth-grader Cameron Sanders finished second out of 428 elementary boys and trailed the winner by less than two seconds.
High school regional meets will take place Saturday.
